Another guild show and tell item. Hard to believe that it is almost Nov. Christmas will be here before we know it.
I have been spending some time in my sewing room. I need to get my stuff ready soon for my quilting retreat. Hope I don't have issues with the last day of it , getting the time off. All my shifts are filled but the Sunday at this moment but I just found out that one of our staff will be having surgery. Hope this does not change things.
We have a 60% chance of snow today. This will be the first if it comes. We have had a warmer fall then usual. Guess it has to happen sometimes and Halloween night is a normal time for snow.

This is a quilt that a guild member brought for show and tell. Thought that I would share it.
I just got back for my nurse's union annual general meeting. It was 3 days and very good. I
learned alot.
I am at present on days off. Go back to work on days, on Wed. for 5 shifts in a row. Always a busy time.
We are celebrating my father in laws 80th birthday on Sunday. I am not sure yet if I can get the day off.
We will drive to Blairmore in the morning and home on Sunday evening. It is 3 hours each way. Should be fun.
Hope I can go too. I have to start planning what I will be sewing on my quilting retreat. It comes up in the middle
of Nov. Looking forward to getting alot done.

This picture is from 2010 quilt show at Lorraine Stagness's show. I didn't get to this years show as I was away. It's been a bit since I posted. We have been busy purging the basement and laying laminate in the spare room and livingroom. Things are almost back to usable in both rooms. Still working on the basement. That will be a much longer job. I finally got a little sewing done in the last 2 days. My 6 Bragg creek storm blocks are quilted and ready to do quiltasyougo sewing together. I decided I needed 8 blocks so I started making another block. I have a seventh one made but not bordered. So a little work left to do on that. Daughter is off to work. I'm off today.

On tractor

For a girl who grew up in a small town and then lived in the city, this picture was never in my future goals or dreams.
I was standing on the tractor to hold the stack in place well my hubby screwed in back on. Who would ever have thought I would end up living in the country and working with a tractor. Not something that I predicted, that's for sure.

This is a friendship block that I made in 2010. Summer is disappearing fast. Hard to believe next weekend is labour day weekend already. I'm still on vacation but have not made it to sewing room yet for any sewing time. Maybe today. So much to do so little time. Most of upstairs of house is now reorganized and purged. Still have mud room to do. Dave has Chris's bedroom painted and the carpet removed. Waiting on the flooring to come in. Had to order it. Putting laminate down. His room will be an office/entertainment room. I chose a lilac/beige paints for the walls. 2 walls of each colour. Lood good. Guess I need to take a picture.

Hard to believe it is so near the end of Aug. Will arrived back home from Ontario on July 20. My Mom flew home with us.
We just put her on the plane home this morning. She is likely about half way home by now.
The above picture is of a pouch I made for my pens and glasses. I wear this around my neck at work. It started out as a bag just for my glasses. I broke a pair by putting them in my pocket. That was about 7 or 8 years again. I have had several pouches since and this is my newest one. They keep wearing out.
My house is now about half organized. Mom is good at doing it and she didn't mind so that is alot of what we did while she was here. We did do a few day trips into the mountains and stores. Now I have to get the paper work done for my hours of work for the past year and send off and pay for my license so I can continue to work next year. Have to have it all done before the end of the month. I am still off on vacation till Aug. 30. Then I just work 2 evenings and have another 5 off. I think I can handle that.
Well, this was my break. Better get back to work on those papers.
Maybe I will beable to get into my sewing room sometime soon or 10 or 15 minutes. My goal would be that amount of time per day. Have to wait and see if I can manage it.

I may have already posted this pic but I haven't posted since June 27. Wow that's a long time.
This was a top I made very quickly but haven't decided on the finishing size or worked on it since.
My Dad passed away very quickly on June 29. I was in Ontario for about 2 weeks. Had hoped to arrived while he was still alive but He seemed to give up when the cancer had spread and I did not get there till July 6. The funeral was on July 7. I did get to see my aunts and uncles. I had not seen some of them in over 20 years. That part was really nice.
My mom came back with us and we have been cleaning and purging my collection of stuff ever since. I have not spent alot of time on the computer. I haven't had any time to sew. I am at present on holiday. My mom flies home on the 23rd. I will still have a week off so maybe I'll get a bit of time to sew then.

Two more birthday blocks that were done for me in 2010.
I finally got the top of a baby quilt done yesterday. It is for my nephew and is really late. He is over 6 months already. I am getting it done so that I can take it to Ontario with me in July. Should have finished it a long time ago. I have it laid out and ready to pin in the morning. Hope to get it done tomorrow if I don't get side tracked with a daughter home all day. She has a friend over so maybe I'll be able to get it done before they even get up. I want to do a 15 minute challenge on the Inklingo blog as well.
I made myself a new pen holder for work tonight. Now I just have to embroider my name and RN on the front and it will be done.
I figure that I will do the embroidery while I watch the Y and R tomorrow. I know I started a to do list for before our trip too so I need to find that so that I can get organized for that too. We fly to Ottawa on July 6. Lots to do before that and I have to work 5 evenings. My husbands last day at work is June 30th so my evening shift days will be different with him home in the morning.
I may not get as much done as I usually do. Time will tell. Well, I guess that's it for tonight.

Birthday blocks done for me from an online group I belong to. This was the group in 2010. I will add a few more later. I had fun sending out monthly block to others on their birthday. These blocks are still ufo's. I haven't received all of them yet.
Life has been very busy lately. My daughter Jenn is now done high school. She will work for a year and then go to university.
She has taken a job selling Cutco knives. Hope she likes it. She is waiting to hear from other jobs that interested her. She could do this parttime if something else comes up. She is quite excited about it.

Another quilt show gem. Today was busy at work but it all went well. No serious issues.
Hope to spent at least 30 minutes in my sewing room tonight. Chris is working days this weekend so will spend at least 2 nights at home and then go back to his apartment as he works evenings Monday and Tuesday.
I have 2 more days to work and then I get 2 days off.
I can believe how quickly that new jelly roll pattern has worked up. I have the last border done. Now I have to think about the backing. I'd like to use flannel but I don't have any that would work for it. I will have to give it more thought.

This is a picture of a free pattern I found online. The pattern did not show me a picture but it sounded like something I wanted to try. I changed it a bit. I didn't have a jelly roll but I have lots of fat quarters. So I decided to make the pattern using 5 fat quarters and 2 metres of fabric. I like the results. I put all the colours of fatquarter strips together in the same order each time. I had 1 metre of a pink and 1 metre of a purple. I added purple between each set of fat quarters. This is the first picture taken.
Tonight I added a second border but I haven't taken another picture yet. I really like how this is turning out.

Of course I will have to quilt it now and get it finished.

These are pictures from my trip to Iqualit with my hubby. It was on May 8, 2011. They still had ice and snow. It was about minus 10 both days. It was a neat experience to see it.

This is a picture of the teachers sample for the art quilt class that I took awhile ago. Mine of course is still in the works. I don't have a darning foot for my machine at the moment and want to do some free motion quilting on the top so it is kind of on hold. I really have to get my husquvarna into the shop. I just can't the tension right on it. That machine has my darning foot and I've done alot of free motion with it but the little brother that I have doesn't have that foot. I think I already posted a pic of my top so far but I will check again when I post this message.
We started taking Christopher's bed apart now that he has moved out. Oh the garbage and junk under that bed. I'm not surprised but there sure was alot. We are going to us his old room as a t.v. /office
Well, guess I should have some breakfast and get some work done today.

This a guild members quilt from show and tell. Thought I would share it.
I just got back from Iqualit. Hubby went there to work and I tagged along on a standby ticket. It was really nice to go there and see that it is like that far north. Still snow and ice. Temp was about -10 or so. Very sunny most of the time. There was a small snow storm on the second day we were there. The roads had been quite muddy the first morning and then on the second morning everything was hard again on the ground and no mud. Prices were high for most things. 4 litres of milk 2% was $12.95
12 cans of brand name pop....$17.99 2 litres ice cream....$17.99.....Breakfast at the hotel was $35.00 for 2.
Dinner the second night most items on menu were $49.00 an entree. I had Artic Char, Dave had Caribou medallions. Both were very good. We did alot of walking. Very steep hill down into the town from where we were staying. All houses and buildings are built off the ground on stilts as the permafrost would stift the foundations. So no basements.
Did have internet service and satilite t.v.

We have been having snow. It is April 17. I sure hope it is done soon.

I took a class in March about art quilting. It was alot of fun. This picture is mine in progress. I haven't started the embellishment yet on it. Interesting stuff. I really enjoyed the class. I have some embellishment done but it is not anywhere near done yet.
One more ufo.
I have to make some butter tarts this morning to take to work. We are doing a potluck for the hospital on Wed. This is the last shift I work before Wed so I have to make something that will store in the frig till then as I live 30mins from work and will not be in Strathmore till before my shift on Wed. I work evenings then. Usually go in early so I can enjoy the lunch too and help clean up.
Makes a longer day but it is only once a year. It is a small hospital and different areas of the hospital take turns with hosting potlucks. We have 4 or 5 a year.
I will be at our charity quilting day on Sat. Took a vacation day so I could attend. My guild does this every 2years. We make quilts and donate them to the local crisis centre in Strathmore and to the StoreFront school there as well. I'm looking forward to the day.
Most years we have 30 to 40 quilts made for this event.

This is a quilt I made for my Dad. He recently had treatment for esphogeal cancer. Seems to be doing ok at the moment.'
He has enjoyed moose/deer hunting for years. The animal pics are in flannel so I wanted that on the back and I used a cotton with trees and birds for the front.

This is the gift that I made for my secret pal last Christmas. She likes cats as well as quilting.
I taught my epp bookmark class today. Went well. All seemed to enjoy. I made another one but it was for a member present that can't see too well. I didn't take any pictures.
I need to get some sewing done soon. I'm on evenings this week. Maybe I can get to my sewingroom a little tonight and some tomorrow morning. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

This is a block I made using a Pat Sloan pattern that was free for a monthly challenge, from her blog. It was the challenge for Feb. I think. I need to go back and see if there is a new one now. I sewed the block to a premade cloth shopping bag from superstore.

This is my first project,finished using inklingo. I printed the hexies on paper and handsewed the item.
I plan to teach this to my craft guild this month.
I have "flying swallow started using inklingo. The first time I printed on fabric.
I really need to spent more time in my sewing room. Unfortunately it has been very busy at work and I'm home and tired and time passes and I don't get to my quiet room.

Sunrise on morning in Jan. 2011 from my deck. Some of our sunrises and sunset are just awesome. I feel very blessed
to see so many of them.
Well another year was passed in my life. Today I turned a year older. What has happened to the years. They seem to fly by.
We took the kids out for lunch. Chris was working evenings so it had to be lunch instead of dinner. Had a lovely lunch with my family. Had lots of phone calls today as well, so that was very nice. I even got a little bit of sewing done.

I really like this pattern. Barb was working on this at retreat in Nov. It is on my to do list. Not too high at the moment. I don't have the pattern yet for it but one day.
I can't believe that it is Feb. already. Dave and I went to Florida for 2 weeks from Jan. 5 to 19. Stayed with my Mom and went on a 5 day cruise in the middle of the holiday. It was a great 2 weeks and a very nice cruise. I should really try to blog more often. Seems I just don't get to that page too often.

These are 2 blocks that I learned how to make at retreat. I may do a whole quilt of them. You start with a 12 inch block and cut into 4 triangles. There is a template the draw on the main fabric and then you foundation sew on strips of any width.
I use these pieces as my tags to start and stop sewing on other items that I am quilting/sewing. I quite like the look of them. I just have to decide on the foundation fabric to make a whole quilt.
Wow, it's already the 6th of Dec. Where has the time gone.
I'm blog hopping at the moment with Henry Glass Designs. It has been fun and I've alot more patterns now. Interesting reading all of the blogs involved as well.

This is the birthday block for Jean T. ....Nov. 24.....called Castle in the Air. This one was ok to do. I like the look of it when finished.
It is very cold this morning. Minus 41 with the wind chill. That is cold. Not sure if the buses will run for school. Temp before wind chill is minus 31. My smart car was out of the garage yesterday/overnight and it started this morning. Dave drove it to work yesterday to try it in the snow and it wasn't too bad. So he is off to Edmonton for a few days and has decided to take it. He left at 6:20 this morning.
I'm staying home again today. I don't need groceries that badly. I have to go to work tomorrow so that is soon enough. I will shop before work. There is one grocery store open till 11pm and if I need to, I will go there after work at 9:30pm

This was outside the back door of the lodge we stayed at for our quilt retreat on Friday morning. It was very cold and we received alot of snow last week.
I arrived at the retreat about 9:30am and got to sew all day Friday, Sat. and Sun till 2pm Boy was it fun. Got alot done and learned alot too.

It's been awhile since I've posted. I seem to get busy and forget. Well , finally here is a picture of the quilt I made for my Dad.
This is the front. I put flannel on the back. I did a rag quilt. Should be warm. He is going through chemo for cancer of the esphagus.
I'm headed for a quilting retreat weekend tomorrow morning. Spent the day sorting and organizing what to take. So much to do so little time. It will be fun though.

Our guild has taken part in her quilt show and will be again this summer.

The above quilt was on display this past summer.
I just spent 3 nights in Edmonton at my nurses union agm. It was get. The 5 speakers that they had were all interesting.
I went as an observer and quite enjoyed everything. Cold in the mornings. minus 10 one morning. Alot of fog on another morning. Great banquet on Wed. evening as well.

This picture is of the Ricky Timms convergence pattern. I took a class a few months ago and really enjoyed it. This is just the top and I still haven't gotten it any further at the moment. I'm not sure if I want to make it any bigger or not.
I was a little behind in my birthday block swap so I just finished 2 of the 3 that I needed to do. They are now ready to mail. The last one will be late too if I don't get it done this week early. So that is my next goal.
I finally finished my rag quilt for my dad but haven't washed it yet to rag it.

I just finished the quilt I was making for my dad. He has been undergoing treatment for cancer of the esphagus. Now I just have to figure out the best way to sent it. He lives near Ottawa and I am near Calgary. I haven't taken a picture yet. If it is nice out tomorrow maybe I'll hang it on the clothes line and get a picture.

I was working evenings on Wed. but got a 6:15am phone call to see if I'd work days today. I did and now I'm home. It was surprisingly a good day even if I was short shifted. Now I'm off for the weekend. Next day of work is Wed. So I'm happy.
We move my son into residence this Sunday. Daughter started grade 12 on Tues. Another year has begun. Hoping to get some more quilting done this weekend. I am really interested in doing some english paper piecing soon. I've been researching it. Guess that's all for now.

Hi, boy the time is passing. Jenn starts grade 12 on Tues. Aug. 31. Another year and her last in high school.
The picture here is a runner I made for a coworker that got married this weekend. The shower was some time ago, while it July, it seems a long time ago. I used the left over hst's from another project and made my own design with them. I kind of liked it and wasn't sure if I wanted to give it away but I didn't have time to make anything else for her so she got it.
I'm starting to pack up stuff for my son to move into residence next Sunday. That will be an experience for him. It will be different only have one kid home most of the time. I got 4 more blocks quilted for the quilt that I am making for my dad.
That's for row 2 and now I only have 3 more rows to go. The blocks are about 16 inches so 4 across covers our queensized bed.
I'm making a rag quilt with picture flannel on the back and birds in flight and trees on the front.
Hope it turns out okay. I need to have it done soon. He is undergoing radiation and chemo for cancer of the esphagous.
Should already be done but it's taking me longer then I figured.

I've been wasting time this morning. Had to go pick up my daughter from a friends and then I sorted through some nursing education stuff and rest of time I have been online. I really need to get some more work and or sewing done.

This block is from the birthday block exchange that I am in. Can't remember who it was for but it is done and mailed away.
Just picked up my daughter from a summer away with the junior forest rangers. She had a great time. The work in our national parks and live with 6 other crew members plus a supervisor. They had competions at the last day. It was great to see some of the things they learned to do.
Hard to believe that summer is almost over. Hope everyone out there is having a good summer.
I am working on a flannel backed rag quilt for my dad. He is undergoing chemo and radiation for esphagus cancer. He is about half way done. Not a lot of fun. The flannel I choice has wild life animals on it in blocks. I am shadowing each block and making it bigger and then I will put the 12in square together. It's getting there. I have the first 4 blocks quilted and together and another 10 ready to sandwich as blocks. Hope he likes it when it is done.

So this is the quilt I made for my hubby's nephew. He got married in May in Hawaii and had the after party last week.
I bought the fabric when we went to Hawaii a few years ago. It was a really simple way to do the quilt but I like it. I have enough fabric left I think to make on for us. So I'm happy with that. Won't be able to start it for awhile. I'm thinking it might be a good gift for our 25th anniversary and that's a few years from now so I have time.

Got a little bit of cleaning up in basement over the weekend. I headed into town with Chris about 1130 this morning. He wanted to go to Best Buy and I to Costco so we just did the 2 stores. Of course had hot dog and pop for lunch for $2. Chris got a poutine as will. I ate a bit of that too. sure felled me up. Brought some left over home. Didn't buy alot at Costco but needed a few things. Tasted a few samples as well.

This is a "chain and cross" block from a birthday swap that I am in. It has sailed away in the mail to it's new owner.
Had a little trouble with the directions but finally figured it out.
At present I am hand quilting a top I made a number of years ago. Pattern is Magic tiles. Did it in some of my favourite colours.
I don't have a picture of it. Should do that sometime.

This picture is from a birthday block swap I did with the CanadianQuiltSwappers online group. My personal block is missing. I still haven't got it done. Will have to do that soon. I know what I am doing just haven't picked the fabric.
Went to a quilt show yesterday....Lorraine Stangness annual. She was selling off some of her samples. She did really well. I decided to restrain myself. I was very tempted though. I did buy some books, thread and a wee bit of fabric.
She did some demos as well so that was neat to see.
I keep forgetting to get on here. We have been very busy at work and life at home as well. Just had to replace the water pressure tank. I found a leak near my sewing room. This work meant moving alot of my stuff around. Now that the new tank is in I have to resort and get rid of some stuff. My least favourite job but I guess it has to be done. It will take awhile. that is for sure.
Time to get ready for my new license for work again. Alot of paperwork in prep. I do have over a month but that time will go quickly it always does.
Hopefully I will get some quilting done. I have alot of ufo's that's for sure. I refrained from signing up for any more classes at the quilt show because I have too many things started from my classes for last year. Really need to finish those first. I am handquilting a quilt as you go and have most of that done. Time to get those blocks together. Have to cut the sashing between the finished blocks.
Also want to do a rag quilt for my Dad. He has been diagnosed with esophageal cancer and will be having radiation and chem starting this month sometime. Got fabric for that but need space to start cutting that out. Hopefully it will go quickly.
Planning on doing a little weeding today so I guess I should get dressed and get outside. We had rain yesterday but it is cool and sunny today.

Wow, May 2 was my last post. I really have to think about posting and reading more often. I used to post daily. I need to slow down I guess. Have done a little sewing lately but haven't finished anything recently.
The picture I am trying to upload is of a birthday block swap that I did on Susan Wood's Ning group site. I have to decide what to do with them. Should I sash, should I quilt as I go. Not sure. It's laid out on a flannel backed tablecloth and I keep taking it out and try and decide what to do.

Haven't had much time to sew this last week. We bought a new car...It's in my name...of course so is the loan but that's okay.
First time I've owned a new car. It's only a 2 seater but it is really nice to drive. I just have to learn not to buy too much when I shop and that could be a good thing. I buy way too much anyway.
Dave and I drove the new car around a very big circle this past Friday and Saturday. Started from home...Calgary...ended toward Banff and onto Radium, B.C. Stayed the night near there in a little cabin with a hot tub for 2. It was great. The place is called Addison's bungalows. Very nice. Then we drove home the long way. Through Invermere, Kimberley and Cranbrook, Fernie and Blairmore and then up highway 2 through Nanton. I got into 2 quilt store. Lucky me. One in Kimberley and the other in Coleman.
Even bought a few pieces of fabric.
It was a really nice trip and the new car was great. Our 21st anniversary was on Thursday so that was the reason for the trip.
We both enjoyed it. I missed Quilts Canada but had a great time with my hubby so that was more important. And then I still got into 2 quilt shops so all is good.

Can't believe my last post was FEb. 22. Boy am I behind. Must be very busy. Unfortunately I just haven't
been reading many of the post either. Should find some time to do that.

Went out today looking for compression stockings for me (got 2 pair) and a tractor for my husband.
Didn't get the tractor but decided to look at cars. We have put down money on a metallic blue and black Smart car. I am
excited. This will be a replacement for my tracker. I've never had a new car always used. Can't wait.

Not quilting related but this is a picture of our last sunset evening in Cuba on Feb. 6, 2010. We had a wonderful holiday.
It is hard to believe that it is already Feb. 22. I have done a little sewing since I returned but not alot. Took a great class from a guild member before I left on holiday and did the second part of it on my return. She was teaching us to do some Ricky Timm's
convergence. I really like mine so far. The 2 pieces I did are still ufo's but a little farther on then they were in the class.
I haven't uploaded the pics yet though.

Wow, it's hard to believe that it is already Feb. 12. Where has the time gone. For me Jan. flew by. Hubby and I went to Cuba for 2 weeks. An all inclusive. It was great. except maybe for the sand fleas. We'd both go back there. But due to travel plans I didn't get alot of sewing done. I did take one class. Our guild member taught a Ricky Timm's class on Convergence. She did a great job. I left for Cuba on the day of the second class for it so I am going to her house tomorrow to take part 2. Can' t wait.
I haven't uploaded the pics yet. My computer is getting full. We took over 1000 pics on the trip and I haven't uploaded them yet either.
I'm trying to upload a pic. Looks like it did. The picture is from retreat in Nov. I made the 2 in the lower left corner. One was for a birthday swap I am doing and the other was for my secret pal for Christmas. I made a wall hanging/table topper with this block.

So if this works, then you will see a picture of the resulting bag that I got back from an ulgy fabric challenge that I took part in.
I still think that the fabric is awful but it's a nice bag. I use it to take my library books back and get new ones.

Can't believe that I haven't written since Dec. 9. Wow. I must just be not paying attention. I think I'm playing too many games
on facebook. It takes away too much time. I haven't even been sewing much in Dec. How to get back at it soon.
We are going to Cuba for 2 weeks end of Jan. We've never done a 2 week all inclusive before. Should be interesting.

I just finished working 5 days and now have 2 off. Had a great Christmas. Asked for and received a laptop. It sure is nice.

blue bragg creek storm with sashing

Above are the blocks I am making for myself I hope with a pattern by Wayne Kollinger.
I've the attic window sash on 6 or them but haven't gotten any further with it. I want to quilt as I go so there it stands.
Too many other things on the go.

Wow, Hard to believe that I haven't written since Sept. Well, I did have a few changes in my life but you know.
The biggest set back was the sudden death of my step dad. On Oct. 13, he was working on his sailboat in the driveway(storage for the winter) and likely had a massive heart attack. He was 86 and had heart problems for a number of years but it was hard on all of us left behind. My mom has been with him for 39 years. It was a tough time. My hubby and I went to Ont. Dave stayed for 3 days and had to go back to work. I stayed for 3 weeks and couldn't take anymore time off so had to return home and to work.
My Mom headed to Florida early Nov. as they had already rented a place and it would be warm there. She does not do winter well anymore and if she was to be sad, she might just as well be warm. Cold winter would isolate her more. She is sad of course but is doing ok. Having some trouble with only sleeping till about 4am and then not being able to sleep anymore. She has alot of friends there so she is alot busier there, which is good. Not sure what she will do in the summer except that she will return to Ont. and decide about that house and her plans then.

Maybe I will get around to writing a bit more soon.

This is a friendship block I made for a guild member. I haven't done too much sewing this past week. I went to a scrapbooking day/camp last Saturday. Got 19 pages done except for the journalling on them. It was a fun day. Seems to be the only way I manage to get any scrapping done.
Well I've tried twice and the picture will not load so I guess I'll try another time/ another day.
The person I did the ugly challenge for, liked what I made. I'll post that pic when this site photo thing is working.
If I haven't already that is. Guess I should look and see what I have posted for pics lately.

This is my friendship block quilt. My guild after a person is a member for a year, lets the member pick a pattern and many guild members make a block for that person. Then that person gets to make themself a quilt. I got my blocks way back in 1998 or so.
I just finished the quilt in August. It was pinned for quilt for about 3 years. I did some machine and some hand quilting on it.
I was very happy to see it done.

This is the block I chose for my birthday block in the birthday block swap that I am taking part in online.
I have 11 of the 20 blocks made and don't start to send them to the birthday ladies till Sept. I have really enjoyed working on them. I have been sewing quite a bit as my hubby was away on business and I am on holidays. I am supposed to be reorganizing the basement and my sewing room too but I've only done a little of that . I need to make a lemon pie for my son today as we will celebrate his 19th birthday tonight. Dave and Jenn will be away on Monday which is actually his birthday.
Hard to believe my first born is already 19. Where does the time go.
I have been working on an Ugly challenge as well. I am to the binding but have to find my corner tool before I can do that part. So I guess I will reorganize my sewing room while I am looking for it. I used it not too long ago but can't put my fingers on it at the moment. I will post a picture when it is finished. I have till the end of Sept to get it done and mailed. I'll likely take it to my guild meeting in Sept before I mail it out.

This is one of my bom blocks that I did incorrectly first. I sewed the black corners to the wrong sides. I then unsewed them and sewed them to the correct sides.
So the second picture is the way it was supposed to be in the first place.
I am now on my holidays. My hubby is off tonight on a business trip. I have alot planned for at home. I will be very busy while he is gone.

I didn't hear that I won this one so I guess not. I'm now waiting for the Aug fabric and pattern to show up in my mail.
I am enjoying doing this one.
I am now on holidays. My hubby goes away for work on Sunday morning so I figure I will have alot of time to sew and some time to reorganize my basement.. The reorganization needs to be done and I figure I'll work a little sew alot work a little sew some more if you get the drift. Hope to get more sewing then cleaning done but some of both. We will see how it goes.

My son Chris just got back from Europe. Sounds like he had a great trip.

Just finished working my 5 evening shifts. I now get 2 days off. Plan on staying home tomorrow. I need to get my quilts ready for the quilt show this weekend.
Hope to get some sewing done as well. I was in bed but did fall to sleep to got up to ready emails.

This picture is the blue version of Bragg Creek storm. I actually have 6 done but one is on my wall for a sample as I am working on the blocks, so I didn't get it into the picture.
Hubby took today off work so we slept in. I'm still working evenings tonight. So I will leave at 2pm to get there on time.
Last night was a very nice evening at work. Some of our residents had been at the Calgary Zoo. They didn't get back till 4:30 so it was a bit rushed after supper because they were more tired then normal and all in a hurry to go to bed.

Picture is the block I have been having so much fun with over the last few days. It is addictive. Pattern is by Wayne Kollinger.
It is just so much fun. We had him do a trunk show at our June meeting/potluck. It was just wonderful. I bought one of his patterns called Bragg Creek Storm. I just love making it and just looking at it when finished. I think that I'll make the 3 pink/purple blocks into a table runner. The blue ones that I am working on now will be a quilt.
I sewed for a couple of hours this morning. Now I have to start and get ready for work this afternoon. I am just so excited
about these blocks.

Happy Canada Day
Well, I did get some sewing done over the last couple of days. I am addicted to the piecing for the blocks by Wayne Kollinger.
I just love doing them. I have made 3 in pink and purple and got 5 done in blues. The 6th one is almost all cut out.
Pattern of his that I am using is called....Bragg Creek Storm. I just love to look at it after it is together. I will post a picture as soon as I get around to uploading my camera. Won't be today as I have to get ready for work in a few minutes.
I have a dentist appt before work so have to leave home at noon.

This is a picture of a wonderful cake that was made by one of my guild members for our June potluck. It tasted pretty
good too.
I actually been getting some sewing done. I've gotten 3 friendship blocks made for the guild. I am still a few behind. I now belong to a connecting threads group that is doing a birthday swap. There are 20 members. I have 5 blocks done for that.
I have finished the 12 blocks for my guild challenge and now have to decide how to put them together. They are laying out
on the family room floor and I spend time looking at them anytime I go to my sewingroom to sew. What to do, what to do.

Isn't this a wonderful cake. One of our guild members made it for our potluck, last night. It tasted great too.
I took my Mom to the potluck. The food was great. We had a guest speaker. Quilter, Wayne Kollinger. What a trunk show.
He designs his own quilts and teaches. He has a book coming out very soon on how to design quilts. I would suspect that our guild will try to get him to do a class or two in the coming year. He also has pieced alot of different alphabets. Not paperpieced.
I went on a nursing course today. My Mom and Dad left as I went off to my course. They are now on their was home. It sure was nice to have them here.

I just looked for new pictures and realized that I have to upload them first. So no pictures for today.
My parents have been visiting. I take my Mom to my guild potluck tonight and then they are heading home tomorrow.
They've been here 2 weeks. We made curtains for my bedroom this week. I have vertical blind in there but they were actually too small for the window. The new curtains look really nice.
Guess I'd better go and start my day. I'm on a course tomorrow and my parents will be leaving in the morning at the same time that I do.

This is the first time since April that I could get onto my blog. For some reason I could not get it to open.

The bouquet of flowers that my husband send to my work for our 20th wedding anniversary.
They were just beautiful.

Well the first try didn't work. I'm trying again. That one didn't work either. Oh well. Will have to try another time for that one.

My parents are here visiting. I haven't gotten too much sewing done in the last week.

I'm on holidays while they are here. We flew to Yellowknife for an over night trip on my hubby's flight benefits. It was a very nice 2 days with my parents. My hubby, Dave took a week off work as well but he is back to work tomorrow.
They will be here till the 15th. I don't go back to work till the 17th.

My quilt guild potluck is the coming Thursday night. I've missed the last two June ones. I'm taking my mom to this one.
Well. I have to be up with Dave at 5:30 tomorrow morning so I'd better head to bed . It's 11:15 pm here now.
Hopefully I can get back on here again soon. I think that it has something to do with using a Mac computer. Not sure.

This is a quillow I made for my parents some time ago. Last time I visited I took a picture of it. I used a panel of tall ships for the pillow and quilt. I got some quilting done this last week. Had a hard time getting to it the week before. I always feel better when I finally get down there.
don't know if the picture will show up. It just said that it was loaded but I don't see it here. I'll try once more. Didn't seem to work again. I'll have to try another day for this picture by the look of it.

This picture is a challenge at my guild. The block is the same in all blocks but the placement of the colour and prints is different in each. I now have 9 blocks done and I'm also done the 10th. My intention is to use this quilt as a gift but I'm not sure I can
give it away as I'm really partial to the colours. Time will tell. I've enjoyed working on this one

Well, I'm done work for 5 days. I go back to day shift on Wednesday. Tomorrow is our charity sewing day for my guild. We call it Stone soup.(this is for a story about a village bringing little bits together to put into a soup. The first person started with a stone and ended up with a great soup and every one in town was fed. ) We do this biannually. I've missed the last 2 as I had to work.
I'm looking forward to it tomorrow. I'll try to get my camera up loaded this weekend so I can put more pictures here.

Life is just going too fast. I can't believe it is already the middle of March. I am currently working on our guild challenge
You use the same block pattern for each block but change colours/fabric for different squares or half triangles with in the block.
You pick 5 different fabrics in the same colour group. As soon as I get my pictures uploaded I will post some of them. I have
7 blocks done. I used light tones of teal. One piece has butterflies or dragonflies on it. I'm thinking of giving this as a gift but not sure that I will be able to pass it away. I may need to keep it.
I'm back to work tomorrow for 2 evenings. My last stretch of 5 evenings was really busy. I was late 4 of the 5 shifts. Too much to do.
Well, guess I should head to bed. Oh , I'm down 21 pounds since mid Nov. so I'm really happy about that. This is the tough to
continue time.

The picture is Swedish Woven placemats that my mom in law made last year for Christmas for us. I picked out the blue fabric as I saw it when we were shopping together one day. One day I will try to do this craft but not at the moment. I don't need more things that I like to do. Not enough time in the day.
I've finally started to try and re-organize my sewing room. It needs alot of help. I have way too much stuff.
I can hardly move around in the room. Maybe someday It will be better organized. A little bit at a time.
I really should head back down there and get a bit more done.
I did make 4 of my overdue friendship blocks for guild members. I am still very behind with them.

So, I know it's about time. I am uploading a picture of the block that I'm working on for our guild challenge.
We use the same pattern for 12 months and change the position of the colours within the block leaving the direction of the half square triangles the same at all times. It should be interested. This is the first month. I got my 1/2 square triangles done yesterday and set up the first on. We all work on it at our own pace and see it when it is done. Should be fun.

I'm working alot over the next 2 weeks. No one to work on one of my x days off. This means that I get overtime but I'd rather not work it. I didn't see that there was much of a choice and said yes. One staff had surgery and another is having blood pressure issues so there are not alot of other choices.

Oh well, I guess I will get through it.

My hubby gave me a heart box of chocolates. I will eat them slowly. I am on a weight loss program. I've lost 16 pounds and 3 inches so far. That's since mid November. I see a nutritionist and she develops eating plans for me. The recipes are really good. I think that this is a Canadian company. It is called Simply for Life.
Well, I really need to sew a little before I go to work so I'll try to write more another day.

Well the girls were asleep when we got up at 4 am. Likely not for all that long for some of them. They weren't sure. I didn't wake Dave when I crawled into bed. He was out to the world. Picture above is of Jennifer and her horse, Count.(counterstrike).
Jen and I went shopping that afternoon after all the girls were gone. I had to go into town for my weight in. I started a program....called Simply for Life ,at the end of Nov. I have lost 14 pounds so far and 3 inches. My slacks are slipping down quite a bit lately. Have to get them to the sewing machine and take them in a little.
I've had a birthday since my last post. I'm now....another year older.... don't feel it though. I got a new digital camera. It is so small. Fits nicely in my purse. I plan to carry it with me alot. Had a really nice dinner out, in Strathmore.
Pecan pie for dessert. Oh was it good. I shared it with the family.

Well the party goes on but the girls are in the family room , watching a movie. Think I better go to bed. It's 1145pm
Dave has to get up at 4am to go to work early. I'll go back to bed after making his breakfast. I wonder if the girls will still be awake.
Hope I don't wake my hubby when I go to bed.

Well, I'm here to try again. I really need to upload some more pictures. I don't have anything new to put on my blog.
So today it's and african violet that was my mom in laws. It was taken in Sept. of this year. It's not at the house now.
Don't know who took it home but someone did.
Guess the upload is working again for me.
Well, the house is mostly clean for Jenn's party. 16 years old today. It sure goes by fast. She has 3 friends here so far.
I think there is just one more to come. They are going to go out to toboggan in a well. It's cold today. around minus 20.
I'm hoping to get into my sewing room and do something there today.
I'm looking at buying an embroidery machine. Anyone have opinions that will help me. Almost bought a Janome 200E. It was on sale at $700. But it was in Kelowna and I didn't get it. Guess I should really check out info on other machines first too.
Better go and finish putting laundry away.

So I'm trying to load a photo again. Don't know if it will work. Not sure why I'm having so much trouble.
I do use a mac but not sure that it is the problems. I know sometimes pictures don't show up on facebook either.
Anyway. I had a nice week in Kelowna, B.C. with hubby. We never did fly in or out.
Too foggy. They flew us to Cranbrook and then Vancouver when it was still too foggy after waiting in the plane for
2 hours. So we rented a car and drove to Kelowna. Then it was foggy most of the week and wasn't looking good to fly out either.
I had a paid for ticket but Dave was on standby. So we decided to drive home too. Of course it took all day. We were a little concerned about the roads especially around Golden but they weren't too bad, just a bit slushy. I found that the time went way to quickly.
It was an extra $11.00 a day for me to drive the car so, since we were staying right across the street from a mall I decided that I didn't need the car. I had Dave drive me to 3 quilt stores on 2 different days, so that worked out okay. I got some fabric and almost bought an embroidery machine but decided that it wouldn't be too great to have to fly it home. I'd also miss the lessons that came with it. I was to look at home but haven't yet. I've been too busy.
It was a Janome 200 something. It was on sale for $700 and would have come with a cd of 500 designs and lessons.
I'd still like it but have to wait till after my daughter's birthday (Jan. 26) than I can think about it. I've been cleaning the basement and now she is after me to do the kitchen and make her cake. She wants an angel food cake with 7 minute frosting.
So guess I'll be doing that very shortly. She is a slave driver.
Looks like the picture loaded. I can't see it here but what I was trying to load was a recent picture of our house.
Better go before she is at me again. I told her I would be about 5 minutes and she stormed off to her room. She's a mean slave driver. Doesn't get that from me, that's for sure.

Well, I'm finally back. I'm trying to upload a picture again. The last few would not upload. I worked over the holidays.
Evenings on dec. 24 and 25 and 5 days over the new year.
I get to take 3 days off this coming week though and go with my hubby to Kelowna, B.C. It should be a nice holiday for me.
He has to work, I can shop. Sounds good to me.
Maybe I'll get to reading some of my favourite blogs.

Just tried to upload a picture. It didn't work, oh well. I'll try again another time. Just got home from my quilting guilds Christmas potluck. It was great. I have a lot of pictures from it. I was in bed but started to cough so got up for a cup of hot water.
Should end back to bed. We tried something different at our party this year. Had a silent auction. Members donated items and we all tried to buy them. We raised over $700 for our charity sewing day in the spring. It was alot of fun.
I'll try to write sooner next time. Life is just too busy these days.

These are friendship blocks I did at the retreat. All except the one with curvse. I didn't do that one.

I'm on days at the moment and I actually got out on time for the last 2. Highly unusual.

This swirls quilt got finished, not mine though. I put one border on it but I haven't decided how big to make it yet.
Finished making 35 wheat bags last night. they are small , about 3 x3 or so.
I give one to each coworker for Christmas.

I'm starting a 5 day stretch of days tomorrow morning. We have our staff christmas dinner on Saturday.
