Jan. 29,2008

edited out picture at request of guild president on a comment of a member.

I've just spent a couple of days cleaning up the house. Jenn turned 15 on Sat. and she wanted to have a shopping at the mall/sleepover party so that's what we were getting ready for. Of course she wanted to sleep in the family room downstairs. That took alot of work. We had to rearranged furniture so that there would be enough floor space to sleep.

We have a pingpong table in the basement and it has been folded with half up for a long time. She wanted it open and usable so that meant changing the position of the couch and chairs down there. Over then I had to move alot of my stuff into my sewing room, the place looked great.

Now I'll have to clean up my sewing room before I can sew again. I drove the girls(5 of them) into the mall. First they stopped at Chapters for books. Chris and I went to the bank, ate at Subway and then picked them up to took them to the mall. They left their heavy coats in the van. It was -35 yesterday. With wind chill it was -42C that's still very cold even in F.

We took extra blankets and stuff in the van just in case of car trouble but all went well. Chris and I went to Zellers and Best buys(he wanted a part for his Xbox), then we headed for Sobeys, a food store and to Dave's work to change vehicles. He drove my car to work and we changed vehicles so that he could pickup the girls after he was finished work. Other then my car needed to be helped to start, everything went well. He was on an audit of a company and they didn't have plug ins for the car so it would not start at first. Chris and I were home just after 3pm.

The cold weather had effected our Internet connection. The temp dropped about 29 degrees in a few hours. The Internet company had to replace some of the main equipment. It went out about 7pm Sunday evening. When we got home on Monday the connection was back.

Well I guess that's about it for now. It's 640am. Dave left for work at 6am. I think I might go back to bed for a bit. Kids are still off school today. New term starts tomorrow. They will be upset to hear that local schools are closed due to cold weather today. They don't get to miss anything because there are no classes till tomorrow anyway. It's supposed to be a little warmer tomorrow.

bye for now and happy quilting

It's now 745am and 1 kid is on the bus. Chris wanted to sleep a little longer so I'm getting him up at 8 and he is driving. He'll drive Jenn home from school after the exams. His is longer.
So about noon they will both be back home.
It's Jenn's 15th birthday tomorrow. Haven't made any plans for the day. We'll likely take her out for dinner.
Well guess I should get a few other things done before I wake Chris.
Happy quilting and bye for now.

I'm hoping to get into my sewing room and get some sewing done today.

Both kids are writing exams today. They get a couple of days off school next week because their exams are done and the new term doesn't start till Jan. 30. They are happy.

Dave and Jenn are going to clean up the basement and move stuff around for Jenn's birthday sleepover on Monday. This makes me nervous as it will be my stuff that they will want to throw out. This never puts me in a good mood. I'm trying to do some of it before they start. I'm cleaning off the pingpong table. This table gets used for my cutting and piling of stuff. It's about 1/2 cleared off at the moment.

Well, guess I'll close for now. Happy quilting,

:)Carol

I am hoping to get into my sewing room today. I have a new and unexpected project to think about starting. A friend handed me a bag yesterday and said that there was a project in the bag for me to do. When I looked later to see what it was....she had given me about 4 dresden plates sewn together and the rest of the pieces cut out and ready to go. I'll have to call her and ask her why. But looks like I have another project.

Guess this is it for this morning. Have a good day.

I haven't been on line too much. I'm working evenings this week. I'm still sending out my yearly/Christmas greeting to online friends and relatives. I think I'm up to 'J' I really should get some more done tonight. It's already 11:20. I got home form work about 10:15.
Kids are writing exams next week. Should be interesting. Jenn's first high school exams. I just hope that they study enough.
I've 2 more evenings to work. We had a resident pass away this week. It's always so difficult. I'm not good at funerals but I think I'll go to this one. It's Monday and I'm off. This lady was in a fair amount of arthritic pain so at least she is at peace now.
Guess I'd better get to doing some email.
Happy quilting,

I was at my craft guild meeting today. It was my turn to teach a craft so I taught how to make the crisscross coasters. It went very well. Everyone liked making them. Thanks again Jen.

I'll have to get that stuff put away soon.

I miss this meeting next month as we will be in Florida. Visiting my Mom and Dad. They winter near St. Petersburg.

Well, not alot else new. Happy Quilting,

;)Carol

how to for under machine tool holder

picture edited out as requested.
Well, Deb(VTQuilter) asked about the pattern for the under machine tool holder that I made for my secret pal.
I don't really have one. Another guild member made a few a couple of years ago for her secret pal, etc and she told us how to make one. I'm really not sure if it was her pattern idea or not.
Anyway, here is what you do. Mearsurement of item is that of a fat quarter. One fq on bottom with print facing out, then batting, then second fq print facing right side to top. So 2 fq's are wrong side together with the batting in the middle. Now quilt as desired. I bought my clear plastic at walmart. Not sure of the thickness. NOt too thick as you have to sew through it. Her item had binding on the top of the plastic. I forgot about that so I did not put it on mine. Plastic depth is about 1/3 of rectangle. Place on top of fabric. Sew down to make 3 pockets or more if desired. You decide on the width of each pocket. Guess it depends what you want to put in them.
Then sew binding around the outside and you are done.
I was trying to copy the picture again but it would not do that. The picture is in the Jan. 2 blog.
Deb also tagged me for the 7 random & wacky thought. I am working on it.
Happy quilting,
Carol

picture edited out as requested.

I am spending alot of time looking at pictures and quilt blogs.

I did a small amount of quilting. Actually got 3 pair of uniform pants ready to hem. I bought them a very long time ago. I'm really not good at getting things done like that. Now it won't take too long to get the sewing done, I hope.

I'll post more later. Happy quilting,

:)Carol

Middle of Jan. already and I haven't done much sewing. I'm thinking that I have to get to work on our guild friendship blocks. We have new members that have been with the guild over a year now so we are starting a new series to be done and I haven't got the old series finished yet. Got to get moving on them.

We've booked our tickets for end of Feb. to go to Florida. My Mom and Dad are their all winter.

It's been 14years since we've been to Florida. We've been visiting them in Ontario instead.

We are leaving the kids at home. So should be interesting. I'm looking forward to it.

Well, being Sat. today I need to get to work and get a few things done. Maybe even into my sewing room. Jenn wants online so I guess I'll get off and let her have it for awhile.

Bye for now and Happy quilting,

:)Carol

We just got hispeed on Wed. This is the first chance I've had to post. It sure is alot faster. I know I'm going to like this.
The quilt on the bottom is Battenberg lace. Our guild had a class on it but I was either away or working and couldn't attend. The ladies that took it really liked it.
I did buy some of the lace this past summer to give it a try but it is still on my to do list.
I know have 5 days off. I know I could pick up a shift at the other hospital where I work casual but I think I need a few days off.
I'm hoping to get to some sewing today. I need to organize what I should be working on and then I don't get distracted and get nothing done.
Well, guess I should get child 2 up. One is in the shower. Time to get going for school.
It's about -12C this morning.
Happy quilting,
:)Carol

WE got hispeed today. Boy is this fast. No more long waits for stuff to up or download.

So maybe I won't take so long online or maybe I'll just do more reading in the same amount of time.

I'll keep this short for tonight. My guild meeting is tomorrow night so It may be Friday before I'm back online.

Happy quilting everyone,
Carol

Paint chip challenge(more) jan 5 2008

Remember the paint chip challenge at my guild. Well here are somemore of the same pattern. Mine is the big one on the right.

Most of the members that did this challenge brought their top or finished item to our Christmas potluck dinner. Their will be more pictures to follow. I'm still on dialup so one picture goes quicker.

I'll do more later.

Happy Quilting,

christmas block 2007,, wheat bags and pincushion

This is the Christmas block I made for our guild potluck. We have a few draws at our party. Everyone make a Christmas 12 1/2 inch block. Blocks are divided into 3 piles. First draw is for an executive member. Second for a committee head. Third for a member at large. The deal is that each winner should have a quilt made with the blocks by the following Christmas. I won the blocks a number of years ago and just finished my quilt last summer. The picture of that quilt is in an earlier blog. I used blue sashing with it.

This is a basket of small wheat bags that I made for the staff that I work with. I made 45 of them. It took me a whole morning just to get them ready to take to work with the names on them.

These can be used for heat or cold.

This is a heart shaped pin cushion. It is missing the final bow on top. I can't remember if I added it to the one I gave my secret pal. I made 2 of them but didn't finish the second one.

Wednesday, January 2, 2008

This is an under a machine gadget/scissors etc holder. There is a plastic pocket across the bottom for the stuff.

I made this one for my secret pal as part of her gift for Christmas

This is the little brother machine that I bought in the fall. It came with a walking foot and a darning foot. Runs pretty good.

I'm back at work today. It was very busy. My feet were very tired when I finished work. I stopped for groceries on the way home. Dave had supper ready when I got home. It was sure nice.

Happy Quilting......I'll write more soon.

:)Carol
