criss cross coasters

If you look closely you can see that these are some of the crisscross coasters that I made in Nov. Just took me awhile to upload my camera to the computer. I still have some of them but I gave alot away in my Christmas cards.
Dave's back at work for the day. I have to find out if my Monday bible study is on as I missed the last one.
It's hard to believe that Christmas is over for another year.
I go back to work again on Jan 2 for 5 days. Jennifer, my daughter, got her learners permit for driving. She is quite excited. She is almost 15. Here in Alberta a new driver has to have had their permit for a year before they can try the road test. They can't try it before they are 16.
Happy quilting, more later.

I had a new picture uploaded the other day, can't remember which one , had the note all done and it all get lost while it was publishing to post.
We had a quiet Christmas. Had a full hot turkey dinner but we all were in our housecoats for the meal. It was still very nice.
I was the only one that had to get dressed on D.26. I had to work evenings then and D.27. The 26th was a nice shift but we had an unexpected death on D.27 about 7:30pm. I really feel that it was best for this resident but that didn't make it any easier to deal with. Especially hard on the family.
I have a few days off now. I go back to work on Jan. 2(Wed). Hope our newest resident has settled down. He is very aggressive and difficult to manage.
I haven't done much sewing lately. I did get into my sewing room but only pinned somemore scrap blocks for tags and my charity quilts.
I will try to upload my camera in the next few days.
Happy New Year to all,
:) Carol

Well, Christmas is almost here. Hope everyone is ready.

Pictures edited out as requested.

Dave is off to work this morning for awhile. I'm listening to Christmas music while I type this morning.
Jennifer came home from Grandma's on Sat and had to set up the tree. I had not done it yet. She did a great job. It was all lit up and all the gifts under it when I came home Sat. Evening.
Hope you all have a great day tomorrow. Will blog later.

I'm working one more evening tonight and then I'm off for 2 days back for 2 evenings and off for 5 days.
Maybe I'll actually get into my sewing room over that time.
Merry Christmas to everyone and all the best in the new year.
Hopefully I'll also get to uploading all my recent pictures from my camera so I'll have more to show you.
Bye for now.

It's been awhile since I've had time to write.

My MIL fell. We've been there on my days off. Although they have hispeed I didn't get much computer time. Someone else on it alot.

Husband and daughter playing online games.

I am home now but working evenings till Sunday. Then off for 2 and back on evenings on the 26 and 27.

My MIL is home from hospital and during fairly well. We did leave Jennifer there to help out for this week. Her school marks are in the 90's or high 80's and she got all assignments for this weeks so she'll be okay missing a week of school.

I haven't had any time for sewing but maybe on my days off coming up. I did make over 40 small wheat bag for gifts for my coworkers. I got them all ready to take to work yesterday morning. Didn't have alot of time to do anything else as I couldn't get the printer to print so I had to write the directions out by hand. That took awhile. But they are all at work now and some have them to take home.

While I guess I'll close for now. I'm up to get Chris off to school.

Happy quilting,

Carol

I just never know when the picture upload feature will work.

We well be heading back to Blairmore this weekend. My MIL is still in the hospital after a fell, fracturing a lumbar vertebrae. Not sure yet when she will be home. Dave's Dad also has Alziehmer's so we were a little worried about how he will manage as well. We were there for 2 days and he seems to be doing ok for now.

They have high speed. I may get a chance to get online but I'll have to try and remember my web addresses for there.

Hope everyone has a great Christmas season and all the best in the New Year.

Happy quilting,

Tues. Dec. 11
Hi everyone. I tried tonight to upload a picture and it would not work. So you just get a note.
I've been away for 2 days. My MIL fell and fracture a lumbar vertebrae. She is now in the hospital. My FIL has Alzhiemers and we were not sure how he would do on his own. Seems to be okay at the moment. Dave and I went down Sun. evening and returned this afternoon. We had our annual eye check ups and he waited 6 mos for an appt so didn't want to change them. I also have to work tomorrow. So since she is still in hospital we came home.
Kids got themselves off to school. Well I should say that Jenn did. Chris has been home sick for 2 days. Looks like a cold/ maybe the flu. We will see what happens tomorrow.
Dave and I will both be gone to work when they get up for school.
We are going to wait till Lillian gets out of hospital to go back down. Dave and Jenn may go on Wed or Thurs. My MIL wants me to not miss by Christmas quilting potluck. So I'll likely not go back down till Friday or sat. It's a 2 and 1/2 hour drive south of here. They live in Blairmore(part of Crowsnest pass) just above the US border.
I am then off till Wed. again. So we will see how things go for them. She is walking a little but has trouble getting up and down.
I was online a bit down there but didn't get to any of my blogging sites to read or write.
Hopefully pictures will upload soon.
Better go and get things ready for work tomorrow.
Happy quilting and bye for now.

I did get a small amount of sewing done yesterday. Started on a heart shaped pin cushion. I just have the tie on the top to do now.

I really need to get started on my secret pal gift this week. Need it done for next Thurs.
I also put my name down for a cookie exchange at work. Have to get on that too.

I worked nights at PLC on Sunday. We weren't sure if my car would start in the morning. Forecast was -25. Dave drove me to work. Went to work himself early and then picked me up at 7:30 and came home. He then worked from home because his computer isn't working at work. He gets a new one Wed. He is coming home this morning for the rest of the day as well.
Nice to have him home but somewhat changes what I do during my day off.
Well, I'd better get dressed as I need to go find this new post office that our parcels are being delivered to now. and pick up a few groceries.
Happy quilting.

I got to my sewing room this morning but so far I've only rearranged/cleaned up a bit. A long way to go. I now have 40 small wheat bags made.
We curl tonight at 7pm. Should be fun. I missed last week as I had to work evenings. I've been trying to do a new christmas card list on the computer as well. It's a slow job. The post office changed our address as well so I'm doing some of that as well.
I know this is a short one but I need to get some other things done as well.
Happy quilting,

I had a very busy evening at work. I was orientating our new RN. It was her second evening so she got to do all the meds and orders. We had to chase down a couple of doctors and do more orders than are normal on an evening shift, then a dressing needed to be done as was not done on days. We were about 25 minutes late in all the extra things that needed to be done. It was really good for the new staff though because some things don't happen all that often and at least I was there to help her.
Tonight I get to go to Rosebud. A small town north of here that has a dinner theatre. My nurses union is paying for the evening for any nurses that wanted to attend. A real treat. They have not done this before. Should be fun. I had to get someone to work for me so that I could go.
I got a little bit of sewing done yesterday. Some more little wheat bags done, and more cut and serged ready to fill with wheat. I plan to get down there for a while again this morning.
I really need to get my secret pal gift done.
Well I guess that's it for now. Happy quilting,
:)Carol

Well, I'm off work this morning but go in for an evening shift later today. I hope I'm not getting the cold that is going around. I have a very runny nose this morning.

I did get downstairs and got a small amount of sewing done. I have about 10 small wheat bags ready to finish sewing and I did them. But then we went to bed early so that's all I got done.

Roads were much better on the way home from work yesterday, compared to the morning drive in. No new snow this morning.

Well, I'd better finish getting the kids ready for school.

Write later,

nov 27, 2007

I ended up working today. Janet was not feeling too great and needed a day off. I only got 1 day off but after I work evenings tomorrow then I have 5 off so I decided that I could do today.
Then we woke up to snow this morning. Dave offered to drive me to work, so I let him. Anytime a vehicle passed in the snow covered passing lane you couldn't see anything for a minute or two. It took him till 730 to get into the city. I work in the opposite direction of his work. It was nice to be driven both ways. We decided on supper out. Just went to KFC for Toonie Tuesday,
We both ate for $5.28. Not too bad. The kids had already eaten at home when I called.
This was a third attempt at uploading this picture. Sure hope they get it fixed soon.(blogger site).
Well, I should get some real work done and maybe some sewing.
Happy quilting,

I didn't get any sewing done yesterday. Too busy doing other stuff.

I'm off now for 2 days so maybe I can get into my sewing room and get a few things done. I need to get my gift made for my secret pal. Our Christmas potluck is on Dec. 13. So I do have some time yet but I need to get going on it.

I'll have to type more later as I need to get offline and call my son's school. He's not feeling well today. He's still in bed. Jenn has gone to school. I'm out of here soon too for a bit. So

I've been spending too much time on the computer. Haven't gotten any sewing done in the last few days.

When I'm on evenings I just have the morning to work a little bit and then I usually head for bed when I get home.

These are 3 towel tops I put on during the weekend.

This is short but I'd better do some work this morning.

ohio star, angel 2 stockings, nov 22,2007

Happy Thanksgiving to all,

Two of my friendship blocks. The ohio star is for Olive. The blue is horse print. She wanted animals in it. The pp angel is for Jenny. Her theme was "when I get old I'll wear purple". The dress is purple and pink. I still have to add a face to it. I don't draw well so I need to find a good face to add.

My son, Chris, had his braces put on last night. Things seemed to go well for him. His sister went to watch as hers came off end of august. At least with Chris having his driving license , he will be able to take himself to some of his appointments.

I just tired to upload another

This one is right side up. The stockings I finished and more friendship blocks by guild members.

I still have hand sewing to do on the tops of the stockings. Sounds like and in front of the t.v. job.

I gave away about 17 criss cross coasters. Never even thought of taking a picture of them all together first. Too late now.

This is the test block that I made with Kim's September Morn pattern. I really loved the colours so although it was made with my scraps(intended for charity quilts) I had to use it for me.
The shopping bag on the right is what the bag looked like before I sewed the block to it. These are recycled bags that are sold for .99 at our local superstore/extra foods. I bought a few more yesterday as I want to do this again. We as a guild give to our local crisis centre so I thought that a few bags with a quilted block on them would be nice for a client at the centre. I use my bag for work. They are a fairly strong bag. I machine sewed the top and right side and hand sewed the other two as I didn't think that they would go into the machine very well. The part of a quilt that you can see is a round robin that I did online quite a few years ago. It is still just a top. My daughter decided to hang it more then a year ago and it is still there above the couch. One of these days it will come down so I can quilt it. It's a good way to store a top and get to enjoy it as well.

Well , I guess I'd better get to doing something more constructive ...like work. Kids have gone to school.
Have a good day everyone.
Happy quilting,
:)Carol

Wish I could turn this one for you.

There is likely a better picture. I made the 2 cross stitch stocking. I didnot do the cross stitch. A friend of mine does great dross stitch but didn't have the first clue about making them into stockings. I still have to had sew the upper binding. I quilted the back and lined the front.
You can hardly see the one in the lower left corner. It is an angel. pp. I did that one as a friendship block. It isn't quilt done yet. It needs a face.
Guess that's it for tonight. I need to go do a little sewing before bed.
Good night
Happy quilting,

I wrote this blog once already. When I hit post publish there was an error. Guess I should copy it first from now on instead of doing the copy after it is published to my site.

Now I have to try and remember what I typed.

I tried to copy and paste a typing test that Jen had on her site but it just came through as typing and not in a usable state. It was fun to do.

I got 58 on the first try and the anywhere from 47 to 60. I'm not as fast as Jen, she was in the 90's. I don't type for my job though. I just took typing in high school because I thought it would be useful to have. Little did I know that I'd be typing on a home computer.

Lets try this again.
How Fast Can You Type?Type the entire sentence below. The test will begin when you type your first character. When you are done, hit your tab key or click the stop button. (Author of current quote: click here).
We are built to conquer environment, solve problems, achieve goals, and we find no real satisfaction or happiness in life without obstacles to conquer and goals to achieve.

Your speed is words per minute *free typing test (c) CalculatorCat.com

Still didn't do it right. You'll have to go to the site above

Kids just left for school a few minutes ago and I need to get ready to go to my craft guild meeting.

Happy Quilting.

nov 19, 2007

I was out to Bible Study this morning and then headed into town and did a bit of shopping. I have one suitcase unpacked from my weekend but the big suitcase is still full. My camera is still in one of the bags. I have a large carry bag for my rulers and mats and that is where the camera is.
I do have tomorrow off work but I go to my once a month craft guild meeting. We are getting things ready for the Christmas bazaar. So it's a longer day then normal. We start at 10am and bring our own lunches. Meeting will be at 1:30 and then more crafting. Should be fun.
Sorry the quilt is so small in the picture.
Well, guess I should get off this machine and try to do some unpacking or sewing.
Bye for now and Happy quilting to all,

Our room is getting very small. We now have 55 members. When I started in 1995 there were 25 members. We have grown alot. It's a good thing that not all members attend each meeting. We hold our Christmas party in a hall as this room is just not big enough for us with a meal.

That's all for this one. Picture loaded well with no problems.

quilt retreat Nov. 18, 2007

Just home from my quilt retreat. I got alot of sewing done. My butterfly friendship block quilt is closer to being done. I have the binding on and have to do the hand sewing of it now.

I made 2 christmas stockings for a friend. She cross stitched the fronts and I made them into stockings. I made alot of criss cross coasters. I gave away 17 of them to everyone on the retreat(one each), I made 3 hand towels(put hanging tops on them.).I made a Christmas block for our Guild Christmas party draws. I made 3 friendship blocks that were from a very long time ago and I was very late with them. I sewed some of my charity blocks together. I sewed some small wheats together(unfilled). I left the house about 8:30 Friday morning. Got there about 9 or so. Set up and started sewing right away. Some people had been there since Thursday morning. I went to bed about 11pm Friday night. I woke up about 6:30 am but stayed in bed till 7. Got up showered and headed downstairs to my machine. All our meals were cooked for us. It was just wonderful. Sat. we drove to Lorraine Stagness's shop and had a great time there. I bought too much of course. We were out for about 1 1/2 hour or so. Left right after breakfast to go and we were back by 1100am. Got some nice stuff. I'll have to try to get some pictures taken. I am off Monday and Tuesday so we'll see.

Sat. I stopped sewing around 10 or so and took my crocheting up to the fireplace area and sat and talked with a number of the ladies till about 11pm then headed for bed.

I woke at 6:30am and got up again at 7. Headed to my machine, had breakfast sort of on our own with direction and the sewed till noon. Lunch was great all the left overs from our other meals. Then I sewed till about 2:00. Some had left by then and I started to get very tired so I packed it in and packed up my stuff to head home. I was home by 3pm. Unloaded my car and my quilting retreat was over. I can't wait till next year though.

I would recommend retreats to all interested. I can only manage one a year at this point but that's not too bad. At least I get some concentrated sewing done. And the conversation is great.

Of course the group of ladies that go to this retreat are great too.

Well, I guess this is about it. I should unpack some of my stuff.
Happy quilting to all,
:)Carol

Behind on the table are some of our secret pal gifts. This is a program that we take part in all year. If we chose to be a secret pal, we draw names at Christmas party. Then all year we send or bring to meeting small gifts or cards for the secret pal that we drew. Gifts are not a requirement , except for the Christmas gift, you can just send a few cards during the year but most of us do small special occasion gifts.

The Christmas gift is to be no more then $20.00 if bought. If made it can vary. Most of our Christmas party is doing this exchange as after we open the gifts we do a show and tell. It's great fun.

I have to get my gift made for my secret pal this weekend. I haven't made a final decision on what I'm making for her. I my have given myself away already, I'm not sure. We each have I guess before getting our gift, to see if you figured out who had our name.

It's alot of fun. Well, I really neat to get to my sewing room to pack andsort some more of the stuff I am taking on my retreat this weekend. My camera is already in the bag. I am so excited. I hope to get lots done. I have alot of coasters pinned and ready to sew. Will use them as tags for all my sewing.

Happy quilting and talk after the weekend is over.

Raffle quilt 2006(nov12,2007)

picture edited out as requested.

This is the raffle quilt that my guild made for our quilt show in 2006. It was to celebrate Alberta. I made the block that is on the left side 4 from the top. Hard to see but itwas paper pieced and is mountains and a stream and trees.
A family from Texas won the quilt. It was quite big.

I just finished worked 5 days. Busy ones but okay. Now this week coming up I am excited as I get to go to my annual quilting retreat.
So I had today off and tomorrow. I work days on wed. and then I took a vacation day off for thurs. so that I could get all my stuff ready. Then Friday morning after the husband and kids are got I go to the retreat. It is very close, only about a 30-40 minute drive but it is great to get away sew all weekend and have all our meals made for us. I just love it. We generally all work on our own stuff. So this week I have to decide on what I am taking with me and get it ready to go.
So hopefully I'll have more personally done items to show you after the weekend.
Hope everyone is doing well. Happy Quilting

I had a shadow at work today. The area school's have one day a year where kids in grade 9 get to go to work with a parent to see what they do at work. Jenn came to work with me. It was quite different for her. She decided that she definately did not want to go into health care. Not that it was in her plans anyway. So did find it interesting but too early in the day for her. We had to leave the house by 6am. as I do each day shift that I work. Work is a 30min. drive from home. By lunch time she said, "Aren't your feet sore, Mom?" Mine were not of course but hers were. She had a dentist appt after work to get a new retainer. The first one was not made right. This one is much better. She got braces off end of Aug. After today, Jenn still wants to work with animals and not humans.

Well, I guess I'll cut this short , I have a child who would like online and I need to wake Jenn up so she can go to bed. She's been asleep for about 1 hour.

I did alot of pinning and cutting yesterday. Cut more crisscross coasters and pinned more strips to my charity blocks.

Bye for now. Happy quilting.

Well, we have snow today. Ground is covered and it is still snowing. Very lightly but still snowing. I think it is a stay at home day. I cut out alot of 4 1/2 inch squares last night. I'm doing some for myself and some for the craft group's charity sale in Dec.
I present the craft in Jan. but I'm not sure I can keep this one till then. I may be doing it sooner.
Then I'll have to come up with something else for Jan. Maybe I'll just to the ones for charity and then teach it in Jan. I was thinking of doing this one at a meeting in November but then I lose the teaching craft. Maybe I'll save it. They do sew up really quickly. It takes more time to cut and get them ready to sew.
My son has recovered from the teeth extraction, although he said his mouth was sore when if just got up a few minutes ago. So he took some Motrin. As I wrote this I remember his antibiotic. He has another 3 1/2 days of taking that. End of this month he gets his braces. That should be interesting. He teased his sister all the time about her braces, now she can tease him.
I go on a quilting retreat, weekend of the 16th. This is a once a year thing for me. Several members of my quilting guild go and sew all weekend. I just love it. I used to go to the Jan. retreat but it frequently fell on the weekend of Jennifer's birthday so I changed to Nov when they started to have one then. It's a great time of year for it because if there is stuff to get down for Christmas I can work on them then.
I planned to cut alot of the crisscross coasters and sew them there. I'll get them all set and pinned and will just have to sew them there. I think that I'll use them for my sewing tags. I find it quicker to just sew each side and chain peicing so they will work well as tags.
That's a job I have to do soon.....get thinking about what I will take with me to work on for that weekend.
Guess I'll close for now
Happy quilting,
:) CArol

I didn't get any sewing done yesterday. Not sure about today either. Work surely does interfere with my quilting.

Still haven't got to taking any of those pictures. I'll try to get them done this weekend. Hope you are enjoying my pictures even if they are not my stuff.

After doing those coasters last we I'm waffling between them as Christmas gifts for my coworkers or small wheat bags. I just got a new supply of wheat yesterday.

Well, I guess I should get some work done around here so I'll close for now.

Happy Quilting,

I got a few more coasters done last night. I'm really pleased with them. I cut out more squares as well. We watched a bit of t.v. last night and I got a bit of hand sewing to do while I watched.

Watched Bones first and then The Unit. I had 1 leg of a pair of pants to hemmed and a hanging sleeve to sew onto my dolphin wall hanging so I can hang it up. I got both done and turned several of the coasters after sewing them as well. So I was a happy camper. We did stay up later then usual though. Dave was still tired when we got up at 5:30 . I'm working evenings so I'll lay down for a nap around 11 or so.

Dave has to get off work early today and take both kids to the dentist. Chris gets 5 teeth pulled in prep for braces. Jenn's braces came off in Aug.. but the retainer has to be redone. It's not quite right.

Well, guess I'll close for now. Happy quilting,

:)Carol

We are going to photo all the others at our Christmas potluck.

I cut out alot of 4 1/2 inch squares last night for more crisscross coasters. They are just so quick and easy to do. Sorry, I haven't taken any pictures of them yet. Maybe later today.

The ferrier is to come and do the horses hooves this morning but then the rest of the day is mine.

WE woke up to snow this morning. A big surprise. I had not heard that we were to get snow so when I saw all that white I had to turn on the outside light to make sure that was what it was.

It is actually not too cold though. Just zero celisus or around 32F. Kids get up in about 10 mins.

They will be surprised too. Good thing it is not a driving day for Chris. I've heard of a few accidents on the roads in town , on the radio this a.m.

One of my bible study friends,(also in my quilting guild) gave me a bag of her scraps from a quilt she just made. They are all hst's cut for the blocks in the quilt. I will have to go through them and iron them and then decide what to do with them.

I one load of laundry in already. It's almost dry and the kids aren't even up yet. We get up at 5:30. Dave leaves for work at 6. When I'm on days, I leave at 6 as well and the kids then have to get themselves off to school. But at 14 and 17, they can manage that once in a while, even though they are geneally spoiled normally. Doesn't them good to get their lunch occassionally.

Guess I'll post this one.

Happy quilting

pictured edited out as requested of a Battenburg Lace table runner.

Our guild did a workshop on this one and I couldn't go as I was working. I did buy some of the lace to try it though so I'm still hoping to learn how to do this.

I was busy last night for a short time cutting and making a few crisscross coasters. Jen gave us the pattern a while ago and I know I printed it out a couple of times as I had miss placed the first one. Finally thought that I needed to get the first one done and boy did it do up quickly. I just love them. My plan is to made alot of them and include them with some Christmas cards this year. I will cut out alot of 4 1/2 inch squares before my Nov. quilting retreat so I can made alot of them then. As soon as I get the pictures taken I will try to upload somefor you to see.

I'm working one more evening today and then off for 2 days. My son Chris gets 5 teeth pulled on Halloween day. It is in preparation for braces. Poor boy.

Guess that's all my news for now. Happy quilting

wheelchair lap quilt front and back

While, I am surprised this one finally uploaded. This is the front of the wheelchair quilt/bag I made for the LTC unit I work on.

I used block made on foundation of dryer sheets (used ones). Some people would call them crumb blocks. I use scraps.

The one on the left I just downloaded and it in the back or inside of the bag, that the feet go into.
These quilts have 2 purposes. One is to keep resident warm. The second is to cover the seat belt so it is forgotten and not played with or undone.
I guess that the uploading function is working again.

Now I have to remember what other pictures I tried to upload and couldn't

I've been working evenings this week. Did 2 extra on Mon and Tues. Then worked till Fri. Had today off and go back for 1 more evening on Sunday.
Dave was working handibus today so Jenn and I went with him and had supper out. Chinese buffet. Very good but I'm very full. Eat way to much at those things.
It's Jenn's favourite restaurant in Sthramore.

I haven't gotten much sewing done lately. Too much working. We finally hired a few people at work so by Dec. we shouldn't have to work the extra shifts. Or at least I hope so.

Well I will close for now.
Happy quilting,
;)Carol

Wednesday, October 24, 2007

I tired again to upload the wheelchair lap quilt front and back and it would not load. Don't know what the problem is. It loaded to serial quilters. Oh well. You just get words here and no pictures for the moment.
Now I need to start another wheelchair quilt. I likely have enough blocks done I just have to start and put some of them together. I showed the quilt at my guild meeting and asked for others to make some so maybe I won't have to make as many now. I know of at least one person making one so that is good.
I worked 2 unexpected evenings so far this week. I am now on my regular shifts starting today. I would be working 7 now instead of my usual 5 except Joanne did find someone to work my Sat. So I will work 5, 1 off and 1 more evening before my 2 off. One staff member has been really sick.
We had a beautiful sunrise this morning. Bright pinks and purples. OUr fall sunrises and sunsets are awesome. More so then the rest of the year. I went outside and took a few pictures. The horses were in the garden so they are in the pictures. After I upload from camera I'll put here.
So I guess that's my news for today.
I took some pictures of fabric plates that I made last weekend. When I get them on the computer I'll put them here.
Happy Quilting,
:)Carol

wheelchair lap quilt

Sunday Oct. 21, 2007
This is a picture that needs to be rotated but I don't know how to do it so you get to look at me sideways.
I am sitting in my favourite rocker . The bag over my legs is the charity lap quilt/bag for a resident it a wheelchair at the long term care nursing home where I work. The bottom has a pouch to put feet in to keep warm. Sorry it is sideways. Beside me is my quilt rack with some of my quilts.
Dave's ready for bed so I guess I'm off line now. I'll try to get a better picture tommorow.

Friday, Oct. 19, 2007
Hi everyone, I tried again to download a picture and it would do it. I also couldn't get into Yahoo or msn account. Finally the msn account opened so maybe I should try the pic upload again. Busy working and last night my daughter needed the computer for school work so wasn't online at all.
A friend of mine did 2 cross stitch Christmas stockings. She does not sew. She asked last night if I would make them into stockings for her. What could I say. They are very pretty. Both have dragons on them. So now I have an extra project. I'll have to look for material for them in my stash first. When I can I will take and up load pictures.
Happy quilting to you all.

Tuesday, Oct. 16,2007
This program isn't letting me upload a picture tonight. So I guess I'll stop trying.
Had a good day today. It's my Handicraft guild meeting day. We met early as we had 2 projects. The first was material to clear glass plates. It took awhile to dry, so we planned a second craft which was yoyo christmas tree. Both turned out very nice. I could and will do a better job with my tree but I am happy with the plates. I will get some pictures of them soon.

I am working the next 2 days, day shift so I'll not be doing much in the craft/sewing till after Thursday. So this is just a quick note tonight as well.
Hope you are all busy and productive over the next few days.
Take care and Happy quilting.

My house

Monday, Oct. 14, 2007

Hi, This is an aerial view of part of my home. The top part is the canal on the left. Our land is from the ridge just the other side of the play structure towards the top left corner. It is pie shaped and goes over to the tree line on the right corner and then quite a piece down the driveway to the top corner of the pie. This picture was taken in 2006 and since then we have built a wooden coral for the horse. In the same area between the house and pond but 60 foot round. The horse shelter is just outside of the coral and there is now a small garage beside the horse shelter. We have a second double garage on the other side of the tree line.

We fill the pond with water from the canal and that waters everything outside. Our property is 4 and 1/2 acres. The part shown above the tree line is likely about 3 acres. The rest is below the tree line in a triangle.

I just went to a very interesting seminar today about Infections and how they develop and are controlled or not. Did you know that some people actually eat chimp and squirrel brains. They both carry disease similiar to mad cow disease.

Vitamen D is one of the best things you can take to boost your immune systems. I found the falling facts interesting. 1. How long does the flu virus live on a doorknob?.....60 minutes

2. How long does the cold virus live in a hotel room?.....24hours

3. How long does TB live in sputum? 2 years

4. How long does MRSA live on a keyboard?.....24 hours

5. How long can Legionella pneumoniae live on a showerhead? ....2 months. When was the last time you cleaned your showerhead? Barb actually recommended soaking the showerhead in CLR for 1/2 hour.

6. How long does herpes simplex live on a toiletseat?....45minutes

7. Which toiletseat is less contaminated?....futherest or closest to the door.

8. How long does E coli O157:H7(hamberger bug) live on a stainless steel countertop?.....60days

9. How long does the SARS virus live in diarrhea....4 days

Hope you found this as interesting as I did. Some of it is scary.

Better sign off for now. Hope you have a good day

:)Carol

Sat. Oct. 13, 2007

picture edited out as requested. It was a tree skirt.

This was made by a guild member and I thought that it was a great way to use already made blocks. Thought that the design was quite neat. Hope you enjoy seeing it.

I've just finished working my second 12hour shift. I do not do 12 hours shifts well. Dave drove me to and from work today. Yesterday I expected only to work 8 hours and stayed till 6 30 after starting 15mins early to do night shift meds as there had been no RN on nights. So it was a very long day. Plus I was to be at curling for 7pm. I was about 10 mins. late. Dave said that I must have been speeding because I got home so fast. I wasn't speeding but I was going faster than he likes me to drive my car. I didn't do very well curling. Didn't get one rock over the line.
Just wasn't throwing it hard enough. We still don't have a slider so my throwing was from a stationery position. Oh well, at least next week I am not working before I play. Hopefully I will not be so tired. I haven't had much time to read anyone's blogs lately so maybe I'll be able to catch up soon.
I have to head to bed soon so I get a good night's sleep before another day of work.
Hope everyone is doing great. Bye for now.
Happy Quilting,
:) Carol

Well I have just a few minutes. I am downloading I think the last of the fractured quarter rr's.

This is the one that surprised me. No one did any diagonal add ons to this one. It was the only one that was all straight pieces. Strange.

Busy day at work today and now my guild meeting is tonight. I'm taking my wheelchair apron/quilt to show and ask if anyone would like to make one for the unit.

I'll get a picture tonight of it. and post it soon. Hope you are all busy quilting/sewing.
Talk soon

pictured edited out as requested
This is from the same round robin. This one only had one angle cut.
Same of the prints are orientals.
I worked evenings last night and then off today. I was very tired. Think I might be getting my husbands cold. I slept about 1/2 the day away after the kids went to school. Then we went shopping when the kids got home. Dave needed to gas up the van before it went away for awhile. We drove to a party in EDmonton (4hrs) and home after it on Sat.
The party was very nice. Alot of people and relatives that we don't see too often.
I finished the wheelchair quilt/bag that I was making for work. Haven't taken any pictures yet but will in the next couple of days. I have a quilt guild meeting this Thurs. I want to take it there and see if anyone is interested in making some. I am very slow. It goes to the nursing home where I work.
Well, this is short but I have to work the next 5 days and I've a few things to get done tonight before I start working again.
Happy quilting,
Carol

Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007
picture edited out as requested.

I tried to upload this picture a few times the other day and it would just not upload. It is here today. This is the fractured quarter round robin again. I really enjoyed doing this challenge.

I didn't get on the computer to blog yesterday. I did read some in the morning. But we spent the morning trying to decide if you were going to a family gathering. Only thing holding us up was that Dave has a cold and he wasn't feeling great. It is a 4 hour drive from Calgary to north of Edmonton to Leila's house and Dave likes to sleep at home. So we would be 8 hours on the road to go for Leila's 50th birthday party. In the end we did decide to go.

It was very nice but alot of driving. We got back home at 2:30 and slept in to 10:30 this morning. Dave feels pretty lousy today. Won't be doing much. Her party started out small but ended up with 94 people there for a sit down dinner. Good thing she has a really big house.

She didn't want any gifts but I took a few dish cloths that I make and 3 small wheat bags. Enclosed notes saying that even though she was 50 she would still have to do dishes and on the wheat bags I said that they heated in the microwave and she could apply them to all her sore body parts. She didn't open them while we were there.

Leila is actually a foster sister of DAve's , she lived with their family for 3 or 4 years. Dave's Mom, Dad and 2 brothers were there as well with their families. OUr kids didn't go. Chris had to work and Jenn didn't really want to be in the van for 8 hours.

I actually managed to stay awake for quite awhile on the way home. I think I only dosed for about 1/2 hour or so.

We went straight to bed when we got home of course. We were a little surprised that Jenn and Kelsey were awake and playing video games. Jenn doesn't usually stay up that late.

I'm hoping to get a bit of sewing done today. I just realized that I haven't done anything about the UFO group. I've forgotten where to find it. Can anyone out there remind me. I must figure out what to do with that.

Guess I'd better get at something else and off the computer for a bit.

Happy quilting,

:) Carol

Friday, Oct. 5

about 615pm

Just want to say thanks for the comments under Butterfly..... I am very lucky to have a great Husband and son to come and get me. I wasn't too tired till about the last 15mins of the drive. I was really glad that I wasn't driving.
Dave actually took the kids to supper out for Chinese buffet in Strathmore. Chris wanted to shop. So after supper they did. Then Chris and Jenn took my car and drove home. They actually had some snow on the way home. They left about 9pm. We were only 35mins behind them and we didn't have any. When we got to our driveway, though , there was snow on the ground. Sitting on the grass but not the driveway.
Dave came into the unit and waited for me to finish my shift. One of the staff , surprised me the next day by saying how handsome she thought my husband was. I agreed with her of course but them I am a little bias about that.
So I worked evenings on Thursday after attending the funeral of one of our residents. It was a very nice service. Elsie was 94 years old and there had been alot of life in her up till this last time she got sick.
She was a wonderful little lady which great red hair. She kept it so dyed that the red frequently came off on the pillow case. But she always had a smile to give even when she wasn't well.
I was a few minutes late for work but I had cleared it with the outgoing RN so that I could attend the funeral. I'm really glad that I went. She was with us for about a year. I'm glad I got to know her a little.
Well, I was just writing to say thanks for the comments and on and on I go. Nikki those aren't quilts I made though. Actually a couple of my secret pals got little wall hangings that I had cross-stitched and then quilted. This year I have an extremely experienced quilter and I'm not sure what I will make.
One year I crocheted an afgan instead of quilting an item. I'm thinking maybe a table runner but I'm not sure yet.
I just went back to read the comments again and found 5 more.
Nikki, I'm going to run out of things to show that are mine soon. I have alot of UFO's though and have to get working on them.
The bread maker looks like it is functioning now. The first loaf did not mix. I guess I had not clicked the basket into place correctly. It was a very noisy run and there was still flour on top. This loaf I am cooking now is almost done. It is smelling up my kitchen...mmmmm. Can't wait. Yes it will be hard not to eat too much. We decided that I would make bread for awhile though instead of buying it all the time.
I do leave the Christmas quilt on the quilt rack all year. I guess the blue sashing made it look less Christmasy.
Well I guess I had better close for now. No picture for tonight or I'll run out too soon.
Hope you all had a great day. We are off to go curling for 9pm. I haven't curled since 1971. My last year of high school , it was an after school thing. I liked it then so hopefully it well still be fun. Dave hasn't curled in a league for over 20 years.
Bye for now.
Happy Quilting,
Carol

picture edited out as requested.
Here is fractured quarter. This was a fun round robin we did in my guild.
Oh.....a day off for me. I decided to go get bloodwork done this morning that my doctor ordered in Feb. at my annual check up. I'm really not good at getting this stuff good on myself. It's just to check my fasting blood sugar and my cholesterol. That's why it hasn't been done up to now. I have to fast for 12 hours for the one. Today works for me so I'll go and get it done finally. It's a good thing the doc didn't put the date on the form.
I was just trying to download another picture and I lost it both times so I guess this is it for this email.
Hope to get some sewing done today. I start curling with my hubby tonight. Haven't curled in a very long time. More than 30 years for me About 25 for my hubby. Should be fun though.
I'm almost finished making a wheelchair cover with foot bag, for general use at the long term care unit that I work at. I just have to put the tying strip onto it and it's done.
I have to look at what I want to put on my UFO list for the other group doing that. I can think of at least a couple of things that I'd like to be there.
Guess I should get ready to go to town.
Have a good days.
Happy quilting,
Carol

Thurs, Oct. 4

picture edited out as requested.

Yesterday was my long day at work. The stroke seminar was very good though. I am glad that I went. They supplied us with lunch and a free pen. The pen is neat. Each time you click the top you get a different sign of stroke. There are 5 mains ones on the pen. So that was cool.

Dave ended up taking the kids out for supper. Chris wanted to do some shopping and he doesn't get out to eat as much as Jenn(He was usually working ) so he told his Dad that he needed to take him out for supper. So all 3 came to Strathmore early, shopped and then at 9pm Chris and Jenn drove home in my car and Dave came inside to wait for me. I got off at 9:30.
I likely could have driven home but I'd been at work or 12hours so thought that I should take the chance. Chris and Jenn hit a little bit of snow on the way home, but by 9:30 Dave and I didn't see any. There was snow on the grass though when we arrived home.

And it is very cold this morning. Below zero celius. Alot of very heavy frost on the grass.
I lite a fire this morning. We have a wood burning fireplace in the livingroom.

Guess that's about it for news today.
Happy quilting,

:) Carol

Butterfly wall hanging

Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007
Not the greatest clear shot but the butterfly wall hanging is mine. I did not make this one. It was a Christmas gift from my secret pal in 2000. Quilters name is Gretha Robinson. I just love this one. It hangs in my bedroom.
The red, blue and white quilt belongs to our current president of the guild, Jenny Barrett. The pictures were drawn by her grandsons and she made them into a quilt.
Oh, the little table topper in purple beside the butterflies is also mine from another secret pal. Either from 2001 or 2. Quilters name is Joanna Stoesz. That one was one my coffee table for some time but mydaughter has moved it, so it is away at the moment. I didn't get any quilting in yesterday. We've company coming today so I don't know if I'll get into my sewing room to sew or not. Oh well, there is always another day. I know I won't get in there on Wednesday. That's a very busy day.
Staff meeting a 9am. Seminar about strokes at 10 to 2pm and then I couldn't get the shift off so I have to work evenings from 3 to 9:30pm. I will be very tired by the end of the day. I have a 30mins drive home so my hubby and son will come and get me. Chris can drive my car home and I rest while my hubby drives. I don't want to take any chances of being too tired to drive.
I'm not used to such a long work day.
Happy quilting,
:) Carol

Monday, October 1, 2007

Monday,Oct. 1
Hi everyone, is there anyone out there?
This is my Christmas quilt. Each year all the member of my guild bring a Christmas block to our Christmas potluck. We now have several draws with them. I won the blocks along time ago. I think in 1998 or 1999. I just finished quilting this one in the spring of 2006. I have been our librarian since 1996. When I won these blocks I was considered part of the executive. Now we are bigger and I'm a committee leader.
We now have at least 3 draws. One for executive, One for committee leaders and One for a member at large. The pile of blocks is divided evenly. The rule is to have the quilt done by the next Christmas. A few members have actually managed to do that.
Well, I'm finally on a couple of days off. I go to a little bible study group this morning and then I think I might go shopping but not for too long. I would like to get a bit of sewing done.
I got a new bread maker last week with my Club Z points so I really need to have a look at the book and make my first loaf of bread with it. My old one was a one pound loaf. This new one will make 1 , 1 1/2 or 2 pounds. I've had it on the counter for about 4 days and haven't looked for a recipe to try yet.
Well, I guess I'd better go for now.
Happy quilting,
:) CArol

Jenn's horse panel quilt and rr 2005 guild quilt

Sunday Sept 30, 2007

It took 3 times to upload with one. Don't know why.

These quilts were folded in half because of spacing. The one on the far left was part of the guild round robin. I did the ribbon on the second round of this one.

The quilt in the middle is a panel quilt that I made for my daughter. Again I machine quilted the long seams and hand quilted the panel of horses. I put flannel of horses in brown on the back. When I made this quilt the flannel was only in brown. Awhile after I had this one done they came out with the same flannel in blue. It is a twin size quilt.

I've one more evening to work tonight and then I'm off for 2 days. I have gotten a little quilting in. I decided to add another blue border to my paint chip challenge. Just added the last side yesterday. When I get another picture taken I'll post it. Now I can start to think about the backing on this one and get it quilted. I also have sewn through my "tag" pile so I'll have to start and pin again for a new pile to sew. My serging pile is growing as some of the tag pieces are done.

Bye for today and happy quilting

Guild round robin 2005(Jean's)

This is a round robin that I worked on for a guild member.

I set up this rr using the same rules as the online one that I had taken part in during 2003/04. The centre block of this one goes to the yellow round. I did the next round. I found the twisted ribbon block pattern online and really liked them. This is the first quilt that I used them in. I've done them a few times now. I just added the twisted ribbon on 2 sides and the narrow blue border on the other 2 sides. Now that I remember the other blue was there when I got the top. So I guess I was the 3rd person to work on this one, not the second. I really liked how it turned out though.

Well guess that's it for now. I have to work again this afternoon. 3 till 930pm

Happy quilting

;) Carol

southwest eagle panel quilt

Friday Sept. 28, 2007
Well, I'm done work for the day and playing on the computer again.
Another quilt of mine at the quilt show last year.
The blue one is one that I made for my daughter a couple of years ago. The centre panel is southwest Indian. It's kind of hard to see here. I machine quilted the long seams and hand quilted the centre panel. It was a fleece backing.
I just wrote the title in and it came down already typed . I hope that I haven't already posted this one.
Hope you all had a good day.
Bye for now.
:) Carol

Dolphin sampler quilt

Thurs. Sept. 28,2007

This was one of the first classes I took when I started quilting.

My quilt is the sampler in blue. I call it my dolphin quilt.

This was a class done using the book "Quilts, quilts, quilts" I did stiple quilting on the outside border. Machine quilted in the ditch for the long seams and then hand quilted the rest, inside the blocks. It was a fun course doing this one. The quilts are hanging here at our quilt show at the Strathmore fair August, 2006. It was a 5 day event. A little too long for most of us. We usually have a quilt show every 2 years. Don't know if we plan to use the Strathmore fair again. Likely but I think that we will go for less days. It was hard getting volunteers for 5 days.

Thursday, September 27, 2007

Thurs. Sept. 27, 2007

I'm typing but there wasn't any header. It's there now. Off to look for a picture.

I didn't see this one before uploading. It is a picture of Jenn on the dark horse and Kelsey (her friend) on the paint. They are in the coral at out house.

Second one is not too great. It is our side yard though. There is a canal behind to coral a little bit. Guess I'll stop trying for a good picture I'll have to go look offline and check out the pictures first so I know what numbers to upload next time.

I worked evenings tonight and I'm just playing a bit before bed. Dave is off tomorrow. The kids still have school. I'm still on evenings for 3 more.

Have a good day tomorrow

Goodnight.

:) Carol

New sewing machine

Wednesday, Sept. 26.
Where has Sept. gone. Here is another round robin I worked on in 2003. It is a little difficult to see the colour. If I remember correctly, it was a paper pieced border. Don't know how this one finished up either.
I was very fortunate the other day. Walmart had a Singer machine on sale. I've been having problems with the tension on my Husquavarna 500 so, We went looking. I actually didn't get the Singer. I got a Brother machine. It is not computer like the singer was but it came with a walking foot and a darning foot so I went for it. Now I have some zigzag stitches again. I've been using them to do top stitching with my charity quilts.
Seems to work pretty good. I've done a little sewing on it since I brought it home.
I also had a little bit of computer problems over the last week. Our computer was running really slowly, so we did a disk cleanup, defragged it and scanned it again. Didn't find any viruses so we also deleted alot of emails. Figure that they might have been slowingl the computer down a bit.
Anyway, I'm working evenings for the next 5 days. Today is a little longer as I'm starting at 1pm instead of 3 but I'll likely try to get online in the morning for a bit.
Better go and get a few things done before I have to go to work. Kids left for school about 1/2 hour ago.
Take care and Happy quilting
:) Carol

flying geese round robin 2003/04

I'm very confused, Hope I haven't posted this one twice. I know I saw it on one blog but I thought that it was sq. It may be here and with dialup I'm not going off this page to check.

Anyway, this is the first round robin I did online and the first member of that group. I never did get to see this one finished.

Sure would like to .

Kim's september morn block

Kim's September Morn.

This is the test block that I made for Kim. I really liked doing it. I just love my colours but they were all scraps as I don't have any more like them. Haven't decided what to do with this block but I'll think of something

I've just spend some time at block central and I can't find this block but hopefully it is okay for me to post it anyway.

I did get some sewing in today, mostly on my charity quilts. Hope you all had a good day.

Night for now,

:)Carol

Another round robin from 2003/04

Here is another online round robin I worked on in 2003/04 I did the flying geese. I never did see this one when it was finished. I'll have to go back and find out who owned it and see if I can see the finished product. I liked it so far.
I've been online since about 10 and it's 1pm so I guess I'd better go do something else.
A friend from my guild sent me a site with free bom patterns for pp pinwheel patterns. I've been copying them to email so I can print them out. I have 5 of the 12 done but I'd better stop that for now too.

Retreat product 2006 November

Thurs. Sept. 20

I didn't get a chance to write last night, I was online for a bit reading but had not started to write yet, when my hubby got a phone call on his cell phone from an old friend.

I got off line so they could talk. It was too late to get back on when they finished so I headed for bed instead. I had to work today.

The above 2 pieces were done by me at last years guild retreat.

The left one is a wall hanging I made from a panel for my secret pal for Christmas.

The right one is an unfinished block from the precision sewing class of Joanne Middleton that is the same pattern as the one in the centre of my paint chip challenge. They look quilt different.

Haven't gotten to my sewing machine the last couple of days. I'll try to do some tomorrow morning. I am working evenings tomorrow. 3pm till 9:30. Then I'm off for a few days.

Happy sewing,

:) CArol

Paint chip challenge

Tuesday Sept. 18

My day off. It was great. Cleaned the first part of the morning. Friends of Dave's parents were flying into Calgary and using one of our vehicles to drive down the Blairmore where Dave's parents live. Dave picked them up from the airport(his office is there) and brought them here to get the truck. They didn't stay very long. Just used the bathroom, we loaded up the fish tank in the back to take to Dave's parents and off they went.

Dave and I had lunch and talked and then it was time for me to go to my craft guild meeting.

Had fun at that. Our craft was learning to Quill. Unfortunately, I liked it. So new I have another thing that I like to do. I can see myself doing some of this. Katie, taught us how to do the basic shapes that are used to make so many things. I'm not surprised that I liked it but I don't know when I'm going to find time for all the things that I like to do.....maybe I should stop working outside the home again. Now that the kids are in high school, I'd have alot more time to do my crafts. Don't think Dave would go for that. It thinks it is my turn to work and he'll stay home. He's working on that. For about 5 years I worked 4-6 days a month. Starting last Dec. I started a temporary line that was 14 days a month. That line is now permanent.

He hasn't cut back yet though but he doesn't like his job much anymore. Too much politics in it.

So I'm going to try to insert a picture here. The last 2 pics went to the top of the letter instead of under my writing. I didn't try to move them though, I guess I could try that.

Here goes:It didn't get here on it's own. Went to the top left corner and I moved it. Is there something that I should be doing when I'm uploading it.
Guess I can continue to move it. It works.
The is the top from a Paint chip challenge my guild did. I think that I may still add one more border of the blue to finish it off.
The outside border at present is white. The challenge was that we had to reach into a bag and pick out a paint colour card. There at actually 3 colour choices on each one. My card is in the lower left corner of the top. We had to make the centre block using one of the colour combinations. Everyone used the same pattern for the centre. You could do what you wanted with it after that. We got the pattern from Joanne Middleton. She taught us to do precision quilting with this pattern. She gave us permission to use the pattern for this challenge. She just wants to see some finished items. We are planning to do a group picture at our Christmas meeting. Boy, did they look different with different fabrics. I used any extra blocks that I had cut in my borders.
Well, unfortunately, now I have to go back to work but only for the next 3 days. Wed and Thurs are my regular day shifts and I'm working an evening shift so another staff can attend a seminar. Our evenings at present are only 6 hours so it's not too bad.
Bye for now. Write later.
Keep sewing and sending pictures.

Charity quilts

Monday, Sept. 17

It's my stepdad's birthday today, he's 84 and still sailing a boat.

I actually did a bit of sewing today and took some pictures and then uploaded them from my camera.

Above pictures are two of my charity quilt tops. The one on the right is using swatches and old weekenders items(for longer pieces). They are sewn to dryer sheets as foundation. I serge around each piece when done then sew together. At present this one is 8 blocks by 8 blocks.
The one at the left is cotton mostly with some swatches from mens suiting (one of my guild members got a huge bag of swatches from a men's clothing store). She brought some to a meeting and I decided I would use some in my foundation quilts.
I also belong to a handicraft guild and our meeting is tomorrow. I'm not sure what we are doing this month. I didn't write down that we need to take any supplies so I guess it will be a surprise for me.
Better get offline. More later.

Log cabin round robin 2003-04

Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007

Well, I'm off work for 2 days. hurray!!!! Maybe I'll get some sewing done. I decided to use some of my charity foundation strips for quilt aprons to cover laps of residents in the long term care unit that I work on. I already for 3 strips sewn together a length of 8 blocks. I just need to add 1 more strip(already to go) and then back it with fleece and add a long belt at the top for the tie around part and I can take one to work. I'll try to get some pictures of what I mean in the next 2 days.

The above quilt is the same round robin group. I did the last border or log cabin blocks and butterflies. This one was also done in 2003/2004. I would not have minded ending up with this one. I believe we had a month for each round.

Hope you all have a good day.

round robin I worked on

Sat. Sept 15,2007

Hi, Well, It's just lovely here today. I think it's around 24 degrees C. That's in the 70's. 80F =30C.

Anyway, I've been working days. My hubby came home yesterday so didn't get online for very long. Not long enough to write a message anyway. No sewing either.

The picture is of a round robin that I worked on during 2003/2004. I did the outer round.
This picture does show it too well. I'll have to look up a better picture . I can't remember just what I did for it. I really like the centre block of this one.

I hope to get some quilting done Monday evening. I'm out Monday morning for awhile.
I am planning on starting to work on an online class for learning how to make postcards.

I have the tutorials from the teacher. We were to start today but I wasn't up to that after work today. I'm off Monday and Tuesday so we'll see that happens.

Have a good day tomorrow.

Lighthouse and sailboats

Sept. 12, 2007

Well , another day is almost at an end. At least it is for me. It's 9:30 pm but I'll have to head to bed soon. I'm up just after 5am to get out of the house by 6 and to work by 7am

I didn't get any sewing done today. I did get into my sewing room though to get all the rest of my stuff ready for tomorrow nights guild meeting. First of the season. I actually have show and tell for them. I'm taking the dolphin wall hanging, a challenge piece that we started in April. It's just a top yet. I don't know if it totally done yet but I'm taking it anyway. It was our paint chip challenge. One member went to a paint store and got alot of those picture type sample that show 3 colour combination for a room. We had to reach into a bag, pick one and then make a quilt top using a specific pattern with the colour choices whether we liked them or not. Should be interesting to see.

Picture at the top is the quilt I made for my parents 35th anniversary. I did the center piece at a class taught by Lorriane Stagness. She has several books out. She also lives near here.
The center piece was pinned to a wall for 3 or 4 years waiting for an idea as to how to finish it.
Then with this anniversary coming I decided it would be perfect for them. They both sail and like lighthouses . I had done the twisted ribbon pattern in a recent round robin and really liked the look of it so then I just had to find fabric. I hated to give this one away....but being to my mom some day it will come back. And they get to use it in the mean time.

Well I guess I should head to bed. Good night till we meet again,
:) Carol

End of the day (Horse pic)

Where did it go, the day that is. I did do some laundry. Got ready most of my stuff for my Thursday night Guild meeting. Looked for some quilting stuff in my sewing room, that was an adventure.

Sewed 2 wheat bags for my secret pal's anniversary gift. This may give me away but I can't think of what else to get for the 2 of them. My pail of wheat had gone dry so I needed to find another bucket and I did. I'll have to get more soon though, Christmas is coming.

I just check the speed of my dialup and found I'm on at only 21.6 kbps. If I'd realized that I would have redialed. Too late now.

This is our horse. At the top of the note. That was a year ago May but he hasn't changed alot.
His name is Counterstike. He gets called Count. The love of my daughter's live at the moment.
She's 14. Actually so is Count, come to think of it.
Daughter unfortunately, needs this computer for her homework and it's getting late so I guess I had better let her use it. We both need to get to bed. I'm up at 5:30 tomorrow for work.
Goodnight all.
Bye for now.

This is a quilt I made last fall for my neice Sam and her new husband. I started with the panel. Used polar fleece for my backing and batting. Hand quilted the middle panel. Prepared top and bottom borders, Hand quilted them with diagonal lines and added them to quilt with a quilt as you go method. Then prepared the long side borders and did the same. It was a relatively quick quilt for me to do. They liked it and it was nice to be able to make a quilt for them. I knew their wedding date at least a year ahead but of course I didn't start it till a couple of months before it was needed.
The material with the writing on it , is the marriage vows, over and over. I originally bought the fabric for a different wedding gift but never finished that one. That couple lives in Japan and I just never got that one very far. I have about 8 blocks on my design board for that one and that is where it sits. Good thing they done know about it. I think that they have been married for 7 or 8 years now.
Oh well maybe I will finish that for their tenth anniversary.
More next time. Bye for now
:) Carol
