Should end back to bed. We tried something different at our party this year. Had a silent auction. Members donated items and we all tried to buy them. We raised over $700 for our charity sewing day in the spring. It was alot of fun.
I'll try to write sooner next time. Life is just too busy these days.
Merry Christmas everyone and Happy sewing.

This swirls quilt got finished, not mine though. I put one border on it but I haven't decided how big to make it yet.
Finished making 35 wheat bags last night. they are small , about 3 x3 or so.
I give one to each coworker for Christmas.
I'm starting a 5 day stretch of days tomorrow morning. We have our staff christmas dinner on Saturday.
Talk later.

Well, It seems like I am way behind once again. I just haven't gotten around to posting. I guess I need a kick in the butt.
Last time I tried to add a picture it didn't work very well. I will try again today.
I was at my guild quilting retreat last weekend. It was great.
Got some things done. The picture above is my "swirls" top. From the class by Joanne Middleton. Here I don't have the first border on yet. The part of a top ontop of my quilt is the same pattern. Colour makes it look very different.
My husband started a new job and it seems to be going well. He's liking it alot better.
I've been busy at work as we had a staff member quit. We finally hired a new RN so things should be a bit better. No extra
shifts would be good for me.
I'll post again soon. Now I need to get back to reading our blogs.

So while I think on that I am also making a bunch of wheat bags. The last couple of gifts I had to get ready, I had to make the wheat bags up as I didn't have any on hand to give. I cut out alot of bags yesterday. I serge the seams first and then sew 2 extra sewing for security. Fill with wheat and sew shut with 3 seams.
My camera is at present in Switzerland with my husband. He left on Sat. for a course. He comes home next Sat.
I really need to learn how to resize my pictures. I think that is why they are not coming up correctly on here. They used to be okay but blogger must have changed something.
Well, I guess it's time to get Jenn up for school. Talk later. Happy quilting.

Hope this isn't a duplicate. It a wedding gift I made last fall. I did the magic tile pattern and had my squares 8 inches instead of 15 inches. I didn't have a use for it when I made it. Well it was going to be for me but then I decided to use it for a wedding gift instead.
It's been so long since I've blogged. My husband and I have been looking after his dying mom. She passed away at 2:30am on sept. 22. She had surgery for a mass on her pancreas in may. They thought they got it all but another mass was found in June.
It's still hard to believe that she is gone. We will miss her alot. Dave's dad will have a hard time. They were married 55 years in May. He has mild Alzeimers so we are not sure how this will effect him.
My hubby also started a new job at the end of Sept. So he kind of has a couple of stressor in his life at the moment. But he is
fully aware of it and hoping things will only get better.
I'll keepthis one short as I have to get ready for my evening shift soon. Happy quilting to all.

This is me at work. another staff member was taking pictures one day. She sent me a copy. It was taken in april of this year.
Got a bit of paper piecing done but then I found a mistake and I have to do some reverse sewing before I can continue. What a bummer. My daughter has been distracting me I'm hoping to get back downstairs to sew after 9pm.
Happy quilting,
:)Carol
holidays
I go back to work on evenings tomorrow. Had 2 weeks off.
We got out camping with our daughter. She brought a friend. We had planned to go for 2 or 3 nights. Went into Kananaskis (mountains). While it rained. so was cold and wet . After the first night we headed home. Jenn's friend stayed the second night then she had to go home.
Dave starts a new job at the end of the month. It should be good for him. A little scary though. He's been at his present job for 20years.
I'll try to write more soon. Bye for now.

Hi all,
This flower was in bloom a couple of days ago. I shot several pictures of it and thought that I'd share it with you. It was so very pretty. I uploaded my camera to the inlaws computer and printed this out so my mom in law could have it.
Haven't been doing any sewing here. I did a small amount of hand quilting on my butterfly friendship quilt but mostly I've been crocheting.
I haven't asked if I could use mom in laws sewing machine yet and the week is nearing an end so I'm not sure I'll be sewing but I have next week off too so maybe I'll get something done at home.
My mom in law is doing okay. She sat outside for awhile yesterday and even walked around the outside of the house. She's eating ok at the moment too. Live could be like this for awhile. She's tired of being tired but I don't see things being much different for now.
Happy quilting.

another week
Just thought I'd write a short note. I'm away from home so don't have any pictures to add at the moment. Maybe I'll try to upload on my inlaws computer.
I took a really nice picture of a flower in their house a couple of days ago.
I am doing some hand quilting while watching t.v. here. and some crocheting.
I'm working on a paper pieced lighthouse at the moment but haven't done anything with it since I arrived on Friday. Have to ask to use mom in law's machine. I didn't bring mine.
Mom in law is doing okay just tires easily. She need support while walking as she is very unsteady,
I'll sign off for now. Maybe more later.
Happy quilting,
:)Carol

Hi,
I am up and online as I can't sleep at the moment. I'm working evenings. I got up and read a little and now I'm online.
I'll likely try sleep again soon.
At present I am working on a test pattern for paper piecing a lighthouse. It will be nice when done. I have the lighthouse almost totally done and one side. Still quite a bit to go though. I'm hoping to do a bit more tomorrow before I have to go to work again.
So I'm uploading a picture of the magic tile wall hanging I made at my last retreat.
Hope it comes through okay.
Guess I'll try to finish up and go to bed
Happy quilting,
:)Carol

cross stitich christmas wallhanging
I've a couple of new pictures so I'm actually blogging to put them on. This is a wall hanging I made up at my last retreat last Nov. I didn't have a reason for it then but now I've decided to give it as a wedding gift to a coworker. Hope she'll like it.
I didn't make it down to sew yesterday. I'm out for a bit this morning so I'll have to see if it happens today. I just finished listening to a book on tape and can start another one. I listen while I sew.
I haven't been reading blogs lately so I'll have to try to get caught up soon.
Happy quilting,
:)Carol

Well, it's been awhile again. Life is just getting too busy I guess. It's over a week again.
The picture here is of another wheelchair quilt with foot pocket. A guild member made it. The ties are too short though so it is waiting for me to add long ties before I take it into work for the residents to use. This guild member took part in a round robin with me and she used her resulting piece for the quilt. The round robin was called :fractured quarter. You start with a fat quarter and each person makes 2 cuts. Adding a 5 inch strip to each cut. It was fun to do. I haven't made mine up yet. The picture of mine would be back in my archives.
I did finally get into my sewing room the last few days. I've just been working on my crumbs.
I ended up working an extra shift this week. Too many rn's off sick. One broke her foot at work. Glad that wasn't me.
Well, I know this is short but I really should do some house work.
Happy quilting,
:)Carol

over 100 give away
I was just reading some posts and I realized that I have not been paying attention to my number of posts. So I went looking and I am past my 100 posts.
So I guess it's my turn to have a give away. So my draw date will be Aug 1. Please leave a comment and either an email or blog addy on my site and spread the word of my giveaway on your blog to enter.
Maybe this will increase the number of comments to my blog. I don't seem to get many and sometimes wonder if anyone is reading this. So I guess this is also a test.
My blog addy is: www.butrfly2200.blogspot.com
I find the number of hours contest interesting that some of you are doing. Sometimes it is a big surprise when you keep track of the time spent.
Well, I guess I'll sign off for now. Hope to hear from lots of you

Dave and Jennifer
Hi everyone.
It is again a while since I have blogged. Guess I am not in the habit at the moment. I have come across these nice, thoughts for the day and I thought that I'd use this space to pass them on.
Ransom Notes
Bad guys take a newspaper, cut out certain words and reorganize them into a Ransom demand.
And we all know that the newspaper did not say this.
The words were taken out of context and reorganized according to another plan/purpose/idea.
So why do we compare ourselves to others, using only enough data to prove that they are better than us.
Let me assure you that there is always someone better than you
and always someone worse than you, at whatever subject you care to mention.
Always.
You are not the best at anything. Ever.
To say "So and so is much better than me at this or that." may be true but also totally irrelevant.
When you envy someone about something take a close look at the other stuff in that person's personality or life.
You'll soon see that, by and large, you are an excellent combination with only some need to change and improve, here and there. Just like that person!
Stop ransoming yourself.
What you are, is a unique Combination.
I finally got back into my sewing room this weekend. I didn't start on anything special. Just worked on my charity, crumb blocks and listened to a Harry Potter tape a few times over the weekend. I needed to work on 2 wedding gifts and really lucked out. When I pulled out some 8 inch magic tile blocks that I had made with butterfly fabric I found 2 wall hangings that I'd made at my Nov. retreat. So I just have to finish them off (sewing the hanging sleeve) and they will be ready.
I was pretty happy about that.
Here's a picture that I tried to upload. If it doesn't open when I post you may have to highlight and click on address.
https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj18-ZaePAWDI2RPEO9WO3mdWJN1AOfVO4HUU8czJT3lZsEPxw_ID1NKUjLmQT29jj5YvI_efearx3SPunCnK5F9MI_saIlXKWuTIbWLw4mo4KAYLw3nxDuHC1X0HKO4lOFluFIStjlqZk/s200/P5170575.JPG

Hope to find my way here more often.
Bye for now.

Wow, It's hard to believe that I haven't written in this blog since May 25. I just haven't been able to take the time and I guess I didn't really have alot to write. I also haven't been reading too many blogs at the moment. I also got caught up in a few online games that i've had fun playing and they take up alot of time.
I really haven't had much time in my sewing room. I am working on the last round of my challenge quilt. I missed the June meeting as MY Mom in law had her 3 week post surgery visit with the surgeon, here in Calgary and we talked them into staying
the night and the trip is 2 1/2 to 3 hours from here driving. But that meant that I needed to be home cooking supper and visiting so I missed the meeting. We have a speaker at our June potluck so I was disappointed but it was good that I stayed home.
Mom is now finally doing a little better but she is back in the hospital for an infection. Over a week now. The infection looks like it is finally starting to clear. Dave's sister and neice have been there with them since May 13. They fly home tomorrow.
Another friend, who is a retired nurse is coming on Wednesday. She will be here a couple of weeks. I don't know how we'll do after that. Time will tell I guess. Dad also has alzeimer's so I doubt they will manage too well on their own. Don't think that Mom will cope too well with all his questions when she is not feeling up to it anymore.
Our neice came home with us for the weekend when we were down to Blairmore for a Doctor's conference on Sat.
Dave drives down after work tonight to pick up Myrna as their flight home is around 10 tomorrow morning.
Then Mary arrives in Calgary Wed. around 10am and Dave will drive her down and he'll come back home the same day.
He just finished his holidays and is back at work today.
Hopefully I'll find some sewing time soon. I have a couple of wedding gifts I need to make. Thought I'd make a small wall hanging for each of them. One wedding is in August and the other in Sept. Both ladies that I work with.
I am just trying to upload a picture. Haven't done that much since we got the imac. So now it's at the top of the note.
But it's not a picture. I think that you have to click on the address to get the picture. I will finish typing this note and then try it as see what happens. Hope the picture can be seen. It's Dave and myself with Chris in his grad gown. Just before the ceremony. Over 200 kids in the graduating class.
Well, I guess that's all for now.
Happy quilting and I hope to get around to reading more blogs again.

virtual round robin help needed
This is my virual round robin. Round 2 is done. The rules are that we add round 3 before doing the corners. I am not stuck on what to add for round 3. Round 2 was to have leaves and round 3 was sort of what I did in round 2. I thought that my centre was too busy and I needed this round first. So now I'm not sure where to go. Any ideas out there. I am using fat quarters so I don't have alot of any of the centre block fabric but do have some of each leftover. Should I add another colour. Like maybe a shade of green or should I stay with the blues? What design should I use? The next round is the same length of each side. The corners get done after the next strip is sewn onto the one that is there now. would flying geese do it any good?
Nathalie, I finished writing and saved and then realized I hadn't answered your questions.
The swirl is part of the pattern. If you look closely here you can see that 1 block has connector corners and has the main part of the colour of the swirl. The tail of the swirl is actually a half square triangle. I you look at the purple swirl maybe you can see what I am talking about.
I actually made 2 mistakes putting the swirls together but I don't think I am going to change anything. I'll have to think about it. You can't see it in this picture.
Nathalie, We have 2 horses in our yard. One is ours, Count...short for Counterstrike. and Diamond belongs to a friend of Jenn's. We live on 4.5 acres. Kelsey lives in Langdon so, Diamond lives here and Kelsey comes to visit. Diamond has been alot of work , she escapes alot. But she is good company for Count.
Hope you got to get some quilting or sewing done as you wanted to Nathalie.
Well, I had better get to some real work.
:)Carol
Well, I actually got some sewing done yesterday. I worked on my virtual round robin. I now have the second round done. Now I have to plan the next border. I'll try to upload that picture today. Took the picture last night.
I was given 3 bags of pillow quilt squares. They are about 1- 1/2 inch squares. I didn't measure but that's what they look like. I've started sewing them together. I'm using them as my tags while working on other stuff. I plan to make a charity quilt with them. It will do for one of the baby quilts that we make in our guild. We donate to a store front school in Strathmore. There are usually Mom's that graduate each spring and we give the babies a quilt for the mom's graduation gift.
I've started to listen to books on tape while I'm quilting. I am quite enjoying it. If you haven't tried it you should. I have bought a few of the books at the library sales but I am now taking some out of the library as I finally have access to a local library. Because we live in the country and not in Calgary, our cost of an annual library card with Calgary is $112.00/year. Our county finally decided to pay into a library system and now I can be a member in Strathmore for only $25.00 which is much more affordable. Our first year is free. So that is what I am on at the moment. And it's great. I work in Strathmore so I'm that alot , so it's not a problem to get books back on time. We also now have a small library in Langdon. It's hours are short as it is run by volunteers but I've a membership there as well. So I will be well supplied now.
Guess that's it for now. I'll try to add those pictures a little later today.
Happy sewing,
:)Carol

fab 4 for april 11
And how did I do.
1. finish sewing top together on summer swirls HURRAY I GOT THIS DONE.
2. get started on my guild challenge. cutting it out at least.HURRAY AGAIN, I'M DOING SO WELL. I GOT ALL THE FABRIC CUT AND SEWN THAT WAS GIVEN TO US. I BOUGHT 3 MORE COLOURS TO GO WITH IT AND I HAVE THE FIRST BORDER ON THE PIECE.
3. organize stuff for quild meeting as I can't attend due to working evenings. Also get anything that needs to go to meeting there for the meeting. WELL, I SORT OF DID THIS. I CALLED AND ARRANGED FOR PICTURES TO BE TAKEN OF THE SHOW AND TELL. WE HAD A SNOW STORM THAT MORNING SO I DIDN'T TAKE ANYTHING DOWN TO THE HALL.
4. work on the second round of my virual rr quilt.I GOT 2 SIDES OF THE NEXT ROUND DONE AND I'VE STARTED ON THE THIRD. SO JUST 1 1/2 MORE TO GO.
I do like making myself accountable for getting some things done. It's nice to see that I actually can get a few things done when I plan to.
Fab 4 for April 11:
1. On Summer swirls decided on next border and get it done. There is a border suggested with the pattern, I have to decide if I will use that or something different.
2. Decide on final borders and get them done on guild challenge piece.
3. Finish 2nd round on virual round robin
4. Make ties longer on charity wheelchair quilt.
Hopefully I will get all of this done. I will certainly try.
Since I have to work this afternoon, I guess I'll close for now and try to get some other stuff done. Already had to go outside to catch a horse. Our boarder horse keeps getting out. She got out onto road last night and again this morning. Fortunately, our neighbour noticed early this morning and he went down and shut his gate because she came back into his yard as he came down his driveway to see if he could catch her. So when Jenn and Dave were leaving to do handibus ,they came back to put the horse in our yard. I told Jenn that I would get her.
Both horses are not in the pen till we get the fence fixed. Diamond pushes her way through the fencing.
Happy quilting and make yourself a great day, only you can.

Florida Fabric and fab. 4 for friday
The first 4 pictures are the fabric that I bought in Florida.
$2.00yd
2 yards each above
Flannel butterflies was $3yd I think.

I used some of it the blue and white in the twisted star that I did last week.
The white and 3 blues went into the twisted star. I am thinking
of using one of the other 2 prints for the backing but haven't decided yet.
I was to do a "weaver fever" class on April 8 but it may not happen. We will see. I'm the only one signed up at the moment.
I've been busy working. Jenn went to her first job interview today. Doesn't know yet if she hasit.
There were 30 kids being interviewed for the jobs. Not sure how many jobs.
Surely, good experience for her if nothing else.

This is the bargello runner I made yesterday. I think it goes with my couch very nice. My daughter said it looks old ladyish. Now I have yet another ufo. Have to finish it into a table runner.
Just uploaded the picture so thought I'd write the extra email and send it along.
Since I've basically been at the computer since 6am and it is now 10am I'd better leave and get some work done. I have to go to work for a 3pm start.
Talk later.

(edited out info as requested) tablerunner. Sorry for quality of picture. Sometimes I don't see too well or I have to snap quickly to even get a picture.
I have a few other pictures but they aren't uploaded yet. I'll try to do that later this a.m.
I went to a free class yesterday. Made a bargello table runner. I really like it. Picture to follow later. My daughter's comments were that it looks old ladyish. I used an oriental print with green beige and purple.
I had the first strips sewn together so I managed to get the top completed in class. Now I have yet another ufo.
Guess that's it for now. I work evenings tonight. Kids get up for school soon.
Have a great day and happy quilting

This is the twisted star table topper that I made at my class last Tues. It is of course just a top at the moment. It will take me a little more time to get it quilted and I'm doing another class tomorrow.I really enjoyed doing this one. It was very different to sew together but I think I will do it again.I am typing this on my son's computer. We are having speed issues with ours. Dave is running scanning programmes to see if we can get it back up to speed. It is very very slow at the moment. This will be the centre for my viral round robin that I'm working on for my canadianquiltswappers group. I'm a little behind. In this picture it wasn't totally sewn together. It now is sewn together but I haven't taken another picture of it.Now on to round 2.Hope everyone is doing well. I really much go and work on my business taxes. Dave wants to get them sent off and done with soon.Happy quilting,:)/Carol

Had a busy day at work. Headache when arrived home so slept for an hour. Jenn got supper while I slept. Dave was late home. Had nice family chat at supper.
I'm getting offline soon to go done and sew some on my
latest quilt. Class with Joanne Middleton. I now have it all laid out so I can start sewing the pieces together. I really like this one. Will take a picture soon.
It has been fun to do. It is called Summer Swirls.
I'm on computer training tomorrow for work. Nice , I get to sleep in. Don't start till 9. 2 hours later then normal.
Well, I'll keep it short for tonight. Happy quilting everyone.

My paint chip challenge still isn't quilted yet and now I did another class by Joanne and have yet another ufo. However the class was really good and I am enjoying getting the blocks done for it. Joanne taught us a new way to make hst's. I really like it. Don't think I'll use paper anymore.
Joanne's site is: http://www.patchworkschoolhouse.com/ Or if you go to "quilterstv" she has several free video's that you can watch. I've really enjoyed both the classes I have taken with Joanne.
Well, I was supposed to be a work today. They "staffing" cancelled my shift and didn't tell me.
I got to work and found our casual RN there. She had been asked to work my shift. Staffing had not told me. Now they have to pay me for working 4hours but I didn't have to stay.
Situation happened when I was signed up to take computer training for a new assessment tool that we are going to start using. The training is on my 2 days off. So they needed to find me time off so that I wasn't working 9 days in a row.
I just had 5 days off. They decided to give me the first day of my stretch off and another day off 6 days later. No great as far as I'm concerned but anyway. Staffing just thought that I'd check the schedule and see that she had booked me off and did not phone to tell me that I was off.
I thought that I had looked at the schedule on Thurs but I guess not as Joanne(scheduler) said that she put it in on Wed.
Long story long.....I got up a 5am. showered and left for work at 6 to arrive at work to find I needed to go back home. Oh well. I do get that extra pay.
Now I should just get some sewing done with this extra day.
Think I am getting that Sat. off instead of the tues. That makes more sense to me. Janet said she could work it for me so they will let me know tomorrow when I go into work.
I must find my camera today to see if I have any new pictures to put here.
Happy quilting and bye for now.

picture edited out as requested....Alberta Quilt. Very nice. This is from Feb. show and tell. I haven't taken pictures of anything I bought on my trip yet so this is it for now.
We have snow this morning. Sounds really windy out there as well.
I'm off to a quilt class this afternoon. The new LQS that opened in Strathmore is the place. The owner is in my quilt guild. She was in Standard before and just a little too far away for me to travel to a class.
Now I'm booked in for 2 classes. Today's is called Twisted star. We are doing a centre piece. Should be fun. I'm looking forward to it.
Glad that the class doesn't start till 1pm. The roads don't sound too good this morning.
Well, I guess that's it for now. Happy quilting,
:)Carol

parents
Well I'm back from Florida and I've finished 4 days at work. Now on 2 days off.
Here is a picture of Dave and I with my Mom and Dad. We were at Sawgrass park in St. Petersburg, Florida. It's a really nice boardwalk around a park with alligators, birds and sometimes armadillo's. We did see an alligator and lots of birds but not armadillo this time. I have other times we have been there.
We had a very nice week with my parents. Did alot of shopping, some time at the beach walking. We didn't go swimming even though I bought a new bathing suit. Couldn't find my old one and needed a new one anyway but we just didn't bother going swimming this time.
My mom wants to make a crazy quilt for charity so I show her how to do her blocks and got her set to start that after her company is gone. My older brother Dave and his wife Joan arrived the day before we left. So they still have company for another week. They are there for 2 weeks.
It was nice to get to see my brother before we left. I will try to get some pictures taken of material and stuff bought on the trip and get them uploaded soon. We're going to see if we can make it down there again sooner then 14 years. We've been visiting them in Ontario. Mostly because of the expense. 4 people is expensive to fly. We drive to ontario.
Well, I guess I'd better get the kids up for school. I'll write more later. Hope everyone is doing well. I haven't been reading any blogs for a bit so I'll have to catch up.
Happy quilting,
;)Carol

Friday's fab 4 from Feb 8. I was to tell of doneness and do more on feb. 15
so.....
Here was my fab 4 for Friday Feb. 8
1. get test pattern made up (as of today it is about 1/2 done or close to it)
Got this about 1/2 done. Still working on it.
2. decide on what pattern i will use for my guild challenge fabric
I know have about 5 patterns to choose from. I'm still thinking about this but plan to
start one after my holiday.
3.get all my stuff, including library, ready for guild meeting
Got this all done and to the meeting....heyheyhey
4. make a couple of cd's for my parents to take with us .
Got this done as well and will be taking 3, I think.
Unfortunately I'll have to wait till I'm back to do another fab 4 , but NancyRose, it is a good idea.
I just need to print it out as well so I keep it in mind as the week goes by. Thanks for the idea.
:)Carol
This is a friendship block that I did for Kathy S. from my guild. She wanted folksy material so these 2 prints were skaters. I took it to the last meeting and since it was Valentines day alot of people were missing. She was one of the missing so it is still with my meeting stuff. Hopefully she will be there next month.
This is a friendship block that I did for Pam H. She was at the meeting and received it. I am still a few behind on the older friendship blocks but I plan to get busy on those when I get back from my holiday.
We fly out to Tampa tomorrow morning at 8am. So being the early person my husband is....will be at the airport by 5am I'm sure. One advantage of Dave working at the airport. We can wear our winter coats and leave them in his office, work over to the airport terminal inside the building all the way. Then they are there for our return.
Dave is very worried about leaving the kids and that things could go wrong with the house.
I think they will be fine. I usually don't start worrying till we are away....like in the air. He started about 1 week ago.
This block still isn't sewn together. I don't think I'll have time before we leave and now I don't need it till Mar.12 or so. This is a 6 inch block for Sheila G.
I did her a 12 inch one by mistake. Gave it to her anyway but now I'll do a 6 inch.
Well, this is short but I guess that's it for now. I'll have more pictures and work after my holiday. Happy sewing while I'm away.
:)Carol
